RRSD#35 Community Update

District Happenings
Student Character and Well-Being:
I recently reported to the school board some encouraging updates regarding supports we have in place for student and staff well-being, one of our district and board goals. All schools in the district have Narcan and EpiPens available for emergency use. Each school has at least one AED device available to provide lifesaving support to individuals having a cardiac event. 63% of our staff are First Aid/CPR/AED certified, a number that far exceeds our requirements and the numbers at neighboring districts.
Sometime in early 2024 the RRSD will retain the services of a school marshal via an agreement with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. The school marshal program will help improve campus security through the consistent presence of a non-uniformed officer at our schools.
Early Learning and Wellness Center Update:
The school board held a meeting on November 27, to hear public input on the location of the new building. Two sites are under consideration. The school board is likely to make a decision on that location in their December board meeting. Once the location is selected, Outlier Construction will begin working with the city on a pre application and review for the proposed building.
Bond Update: Our project management firm (Klosh Group) has begun the RFP process to find a contractor to perform all of the bond work. Applications from contractors are due on December 21 via email. We expect to have a contractor selected by the end of January 2024.
Upcoming Dates:

Kudos:
- Marla Smith and Joan Carter have been filling in as custodial subs from time to time, and this happens after they have already worked their regular shifts as IA's at the schools. Their effort, commitment, and work have been exceptional. Thank you both for doing such a great job.
- Lauren Lancaster has received high praise from staff at Presence Learning. The praise has centered around how well Lauren does at making families feel heard and represented with care. Lauren communicates well with families and service providers, runs efficient meetings, and takes great pride in her work.
- Jayme Matthews and Maureen Howard have also received praise from Presence Learning. Both of these employees provide support for speech services that is invaluable and greatly appreciated.
- Whitney Langfield is always willing to jump in wherever she is needed. She is positive, forward thinking, a problem solver, a team player, and an incredible asset to RRES.
- Cheri Meier has worked tirelessly on supporting our staff and students with additional reading and math instruction. She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about our students and their growth.
- Brianna Wilborn has been a positive presence all year long. At every turn, she finds the silver lining, and she encourages and supports students and staff.
- Custodian Robert Gray is retiring after serving the district for 18 years. Thank you for all the work you have done for the Rogue River School District.
