Please join us for Clive Night at Blank Park Zoo from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Families are invited to a free evening at the zoo to engage in math activities and enjoy the animals, carousel, and train. Please check in at the pavilion when you arrive to get activities for students to engage in while touring the zoo.


What: Clive Night at Blank Park Zoo

Where: 7401 SW 9th Street, Des Moines

When: September 20th from 5:30-7 p.m.

Dear Clive Learning Academy Parent/Guardian,


Hello. We are excited to welcome Superintendent Matt Adams to Clive Learning Academy for what he is calling “Listening Tours.” Dr. Adams joined West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) this summer, and he is visiting schools across the district this fall so he can hear from YOU, the parents and guardians of our students.


Purpose of Listening Tour

Be prepared to share the following…

  • Share about your experience with West Des Moines Community Schools.

  • What is going well for you and your student at Clive Learning Academy?

  • What do you think we should START doing in WDMCS, or at Clive Learning Academy?

  • What do you think we should STOP doing in WDMCS, or at Clive Learning Academy?

  • What questions do you have of Dr. Adams regarding his priorities/goals in his first year?

Childcare is not provided, but your student is welcome to attend and sit with you. We will not be livestreaming this event. Dr. Adams and I look forward to seeing you in person at Clive Learning Academy.

Snacks at School

For more information and a approved snack list please consult our Nutrition Services website.


Can I bring homemade treats from home for a classroom party?


You may choose snack items from one of the district snack lists for activities during the school day. Homemade treats cannot be sold or shared with multiple students during the school day.


What about pre-packed treats from a store?

Please select one of the items listed on the store-bought snack list.


Can I still pack whatever I want in my student’s sack lunch from home?

Yes. Packing a healthy school lunch is encouraged under the student wellness policy, but there are no restrictions as to what you must pack in a student’s lunch brought from home. Classroom snack policies only regulate what can be sold or shared with multiple students during the school day.


Do I have to purchase a snack for my student that is on the approved snack list?

No. Students can bring their own individual snack, and it does not have to be on the list of approved snacks. The approved snack list is for snacks that will be shared with other students, such as classroom parties, birthday treats, or other events.

    Fundraising Committee needs members!

    With a new school year underway, it is time to think about raising funds. PTO funds support our school in so many ways; field trips, classroom parties, indoor recess supplies, teacher start up...most recently, a Little Library for our front entryway AND two new soccer goals for the playground! We need parents who are willing to brainstorm and organize creative fundraising opportunities. Please consider helping out-it can be as much or as little time as you choose!
