SHS DECA Advances to ICDC 2022!

Spotswood High School remains one of the premier DECA programs in the state and the nation! At this year's state competition, SHS collected the following awards:

  • 5 First Place Awards
  • 9 Second Place Awards
  • 3 Third Place Awards
  • 2 Fourth Place Awards
  • 4 Fifth Place Awards
  • 1 Sixth Place Award
  • 4 Instructional Awards

Best of all over 40 students will be attending the International Competition in Atlanta!

Congrats to all the competitors, the winners, and their advisor, Mrs. Meagher, on another successful year!!!

Kids Create Mentors Through Art

Our SHS Kids Create Club, led by art teachers Ms. Collins & Ms. Bartel visited our elementary schools in February and March, teaching lessons about social-emotional learning through creativity and art. Kids Create is a fantastic example of the cross-age mentoring provided by our SHS students!

Morning Drop Off Reminder

Parents, please be aware that morning drop off for students takes place in the front of the building, on Charger Way. There is no morning drop off in the back or side of the building, including in the bus lot between the back and side of the building.

Recently, parents have been coming in through the back, parking in spaces in the "Senior Lot" or idling for extended periods of time and then dropping off. This creates crowding and a dangerous traffic flow when combined with our student drivers trying to park and get to class on time.

Monitoring Grades & Summer Extension

We encourage all parents to monitor their child's grades via Genesis. Additionally, teachers, counselors, and administration will reach out regularly with any concerns we have regarding their progress.

Last summer SHS was able to offer Summer Extension Program for students who were unable to meet course requirements due to attendance or academic concerns deriving from the pandemic. To avoid confusion amongst students and their families, we must be clear that there is no plan to offer this program again, barring another major pandemic disruption/school closure and a state mandate. Students' final grades and attendance records will be used to determine the earning of course credit and their ability to graduate on time. Please have this important discussion with your child, and if you have any questions, please call the school counseling or main office. We appreciate your support and ongoing partnership.

Middle States Accreditation

One of the exciting initiatives SHS will be working on this school year is achieving our Middle States Accreditation. Reaching this goal will be recognition both of the excellent education that students receive at Spotswood High School along with acknowledgment of our culture of continuous improvement. Only 69 non-magnet public schools in the state have this accreditation, so this achievement will put us in the top tier of schools state-wide!

Each month, we will provide you with a brief update on where we are in the process. As always if you are interested in getting involved in the process, please do not hesitate to reach out!

This Month's Update: We have finalized our "Foundational Documents" - the statements of who we are and what we believe. See below for our school mission statement, core beliefs, and profile of graduates!
