Golf Team wins SOC!
Portsmouth West Golf team clinched the Southern Ohio Conference title this season thanks to the consistent play of each member through the four-round tournament. The combined scores of Brynden Roark, Dustin Sowards, Brady Whitt, and Eli Adkins resulted in the team pulling ahead of Wheelersburg and earning the title of SOC II champions.
"I am very proud of the team and all four of the boys. At various times this season, they all stepped up and had great matches for us and all contributed very much to our success. Thursday wasn't our best match, but our consistency throughout the four rounds allowed us to come away with another conference title. Also congratulations to Brynden Roark, Brady Whitt, and Dustin Sowards for making 1st team all-conference," said coach Eric Gray.
Sectional play starts September 25.

Football Update
By Joe Igaz and Brycen Buckle
The Portsmouth West Senators are currently 4-1 after coming off a loss to Raceland Friday. Though the loss gave them much to prepare for the remainder of the season, Coach Johnson gave his perspective on the season thus far. "The season has gone great so far. The players have exhibited a great work ethic and have shown an ability to win in several different types of games. We have lopsided and close games and have had to come from behind. If we stay focused and continue to improve, I am very optimistic for the rest of the season."
Coach Johnson wants the lessons learned in football to carry over to players' lives. "[I want to] Help each player become a good man, win the SOC and make a run at a state championship. Be phenomenal or be forgotten!" said Johnson.

Volleyball Update
By Bailey Kegley and Jordyn Swords
The 2018 Senators volleyball team currently has a record of 0-8 in their conference and a record of 1-8 for the first half of their regular season. The Portsmouth West Lady Senators are working hard to improve their record for the second half of the 2018 season, and the players know that with that hard work, success is sure to follow.
“There are many things to contribute to a good team. We have full capability, we just have a hard time executing our plans. We’re a good team, but our season just hasn’t shown it,” said senior captain Molly Taylor.

Miss West Molly Taylor
2018 Miss West Molly Taylor received many awards and scholarships at the 2018 Portsmouth River Days Queens Pageant held at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at Shawnee State University on September 1. Taylor earned the highest scores in the interview and fitness categories, earning her $600 in scholarships. Her parade float also earned 2nd overall.
The pageant, with all its events and appearances, was time-consuming and hard work, but Miss West continued to stay true to her platform of ultimate positivity. "This experience has helped me in more ways than I could ever know. Although I didn't walk away with a crown, I walked away knowing that my next adventure is just around the corner - and I can't wait to see where it takes me," stated Taylor.
