From the Principal
Dear Copeland families,
Happy New Year! We are looking forward to a fun second semester here at Copeland. It is great to have all our staff and students back from virtual instruction.
Please screen your child each day for symptoms of COVID, and keep them home if they are sick. Specific information can be found in our district's LEAD Safely plan here. Thanks for doing your part to keep everyone here healthy and well.
Thank you for your cooperation in abiding by our drop off and pick up times. Students enter our building at 7:40 a.m. each day and cannot be left unattended on our front porch before that time. We are fortunate to have Club Rewind daycare services at our school. Students enrolled in that program can be dropped off starting at 6:30 a.m. All students must be picked up by 3:50 p.m. in the afternoon each day, unless enrolled in Club Rewind or are attending after school activities supervised by one of our staff. Parents in our car rider line, please turn left only during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. Student safety is a top priority for us at Copeland.
Thanks so much, as always, for your support of Copeland. We are looking forward to a wonderful 2022!
Ann Melancon

PREVENTION
Self-Monitoring
- Students, staff and visitors must screen daily (prior to entering a school bus or school) for symptoms of COVID-19. If symptoms are experienced, individuals must not report to school or work until evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider.
- Symptoms of COVID-19 include:
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Loss of taste/smell
- Nasal congestion
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Fever at or above 100°F
- Vomiting/diarrhea
Quarantine and Isolation
- Students who show symptoms of COVID-19 at school will be evaluated by the nurse and will be excluded in accordance with CFISD communicable disease exclusion criteria.
- Students or staff members who have been in close contact (within 3-6 feet of someone for 15 minutes or more) with someone who has COVID-19 should consider quarantining unless fully vaccinated or recovered from a COVID-19 illness within the last 90 days. See “Recommended Close Contact Quarantine Protocol”.
- Students or staff members who test positive for COVID-19 must meet established criteria as stated in the “Isolation and Readmission Criteria Protocol” before returning to school or work.
Art - Amy Krengel
Thank you for all the wonderful Holiday cards and gifts. You all warm my heart!
Students in grades K-1st need to bring in one to two brown paper bags (grocery size) for art. If you have more to donate-great.
Watch for details about Art to Remember which is an opportunity for you to purchase items featuring your child’s art.

Registrar's Office - Attendance
Dear Copeland Parents,
Transportation changes must be requested by 2:45 p.m., and the latest early pick-up time is 2:45 p.m. as well. Thank you for honoring this, as there are many moving parts at the end of each school day.
Instruction begins at 8:00 a.m. daily, and students who arrive at 8:05 a.m., or later, are marked tardy (unless they are bus riders who are never marked tardy). Please do not drop off your student if the front door is closed. Parents or guardians must sign their child in at the front office if they arrive after 8:05 a.m. Thanks for your cooperation.
If your child is absent from school, please send a signed note or a doctor’s note (if available) at the time the student returns to school.
Excuse notes must be provided to the school within three (3) days from the date of the absence, or consecutive absences.
A phone call and/or email will not excuse the student’s absence.
Students with excessive absences and/or tardiness will be referred to the district’s truancy officer.
Every day counts!

Welcome Trixie!!
Dear Copeland families,
We are thrilled to announce that Trixie has been permanently placed as our Copeland library dog! It’s officially official, and we couldn’t be happier for the students and staff at our school. Day-to-day, Trixie will be present for library lessons, storytimes and checkouts. She will also support teacher-nominated students in a one-to-one or small group setting for extra reading practice.
As always, the safety and happiness of our students is top priority. Students with fears or allergies will never be asked or expected to visit with Trixie. Trixie is a certified Library Dog and has her AKC Good Citizen certification. She will always be accompanied by an adult and will participate in ongoing skills and obedience training during her years at Copeland. She is here to make kiddos happy!
We couldn’t be more excited to have a furry friend to help us grow our brains and our hearts on our campus. Stay tuned for updates on library life with Trixie!
Love from the library,
Jennifer Buchert, librarian
