August 2017 Edition
Thank You For the Warm Welcome!
Dear SMLS Community,
Thank you so much for welcoming me so warmly to St. Mary of the Lakes School community. It has been wonderful to meet many of you and I am looking forward to meeting more staff and families in the coming weeks as we prepare for a fantastic 17-18 school year!

New Staff at SMLS
We are so pleased to welcome the following teachers to the SMLS Staff:
- Mrs. Cindy Mielo will take on a new role as 2nd grade teacher. Mrs. Mielo has served in numerous roles at SMLS and now we are excited for her to bring her skills to 2nd grade. Welcome (back), Mrs. Mielo!
- Mrs. Patricia Cox will be our new 5th and 6th grade math and 6th grade religion teacher. Mrs. Cox has a wealth of mathematics experience as both a classroom teacher and a mathematics coach.
- Mrs. Patricia DiFalco will be our new 7th and 8th grade science and 7th grade religion teacher. Mrs. DiFalco brings her experience in the field of architecture and previous experience working with elementary and middle school students to this new position.
- Some of our teachers are moving grade levels! Mrs. O'Neill will move from 5th/6th grade language arts to 7th and 8th grade social studies and 8th grade religion. Mrs. Hoffman will move from 2nd grade to kindergarten and Mrs. Peterson will move from 2nd grade to 1st grade.
- We are currently in search of a candidate for the 5th/6th language arts position and two teacher assistant positions (part time) as well as a kitchen supervisor.
Please join me in welcoming these teachers to their new roles and wish them a fantastic school year!
Summer Assignments and Supply Lists
Students entering grades 3-8 received information about summer reading at the end of the school year. Information is also located on our website under each specific grade level. Students entering grades 4-8 also received summer math packets at the end of the school year. If you have any questions about the assignments or need a math packet, please call our main office at (609) 654-2546 or send an e-mail to info@smlschool.org .
Supply lists are available on our website and are listed by grade.
Terra Nova Update
Terra Nova scores are scheduled to be available in late August.
Facilities Update
- Windows replacement in the Primary Wing is underway!
- The Diocese of Trenton participated in voluntary lead testing of our water sources. You can find information about those tests on our website under the Principal's Page. For a quick link to that information, the letter about those tests can be found here and the results of the lead test can be found here.
- The school continues to be cleaned and maintained so that we are ready to welcome our students in September!
