A Message from the Principal
We are off to SUCH a great start to the year! Students are building relationships with friends and teachers, routines are being established, and brains are growing.
Hopefully you've noticed a few more emails from Chain Lake in your inbox. We are excited to be using the new Family Communication tool, ParentSquare. ParentSquare makes it easy for us to communicate with you, and opens the possibility of you easily communicating back with us as well. While emails will come to you automatically (like this newsletter!), I highly encourage you to take 2 minutes to set up your account on the website or the app in order to fully interact with all the awesome ParentSquare features.
While I'm still getting to know ParentSquare fully, some of my favorite features so far are:
- Automatic Translation - Families can see posts & messages automatically in their preferred home language.
- Notification Options - Adults can choose to receive information via email and/or text; receive it as it is sent or all at once at about 6pm daily.
- Two-way Communication - Parents/Guardians can easily direct message their child's teacher in their preferred language and receive communication back directly.
- Easy to Follow "Feed" - Posts and information are set up in ParentSquare similarly to many social media platforms with an easy-to-follow "feed."
Click here for answers to many FAQs about ParentSquare in MSD.
"Together may we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly."

Thank you for your partnership!
Warmly,

School Picture Information
The most efficient and cost-friendly way to order is to visit mydorian.com, search for your school, click the green Order button that corresponds with your school picture day and place your order. This option is available for up to four (4) days after picture day - through tomorrow, September 16th.
Once all of the images have been processed. Any student that has not ordered will receive an email with a unique access code and instructions to preview their image and place an order. All orders placed using the unique access code will be shipped directly to the student’s home.
Did you miss picture day or want to retake your picture?
Find your school’s retake day date and order information on mydorian.com by searching for your school. A student wishing to have their picture retaken should bring their original package back to school and return it to the photographer on retake picture day.
Digital downloads are delivered based on how you ordered.
If you ordered an image download online, you will receive an email with access to your image once it is ready. If you ordered with an envelope, you will receive your download instructions when packages are distributed at the school.
PTA Meeting
Our first PTA meeting will be Tuesday, September 20th at 6:30pm in the library. Come hear what exciting things are planned for Chain Lake Elementary this year and how you can be apart of it.

Early Release Fridays Continue
Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures
If you will be dropping your child off or picking your child up at school, please see the below procedures to keep our car lines running smoothly!
All vehicles for drop-off and pick-up must use the driveway off of Chain Lake Rd. (as opposed to our main parking lot entrance). Cars entering through the main parking lot will need to exit the parking lot back onto Chain Lake Rd. and re-enter through the driveway. (see map below)
As you come into the parking area from the driveway, please pull as far down as possible to enable as many cars as possible to unload/load.
Parents/guardians must stay in the car the entire time; staff members will be there to help students if need be.
Students will need to unload/load on the passenger side of the car for safety reasons.
At pick-up, if a child needs assistance buckling in; please pull forward and park before helping them.
We are unable to support parking and walking students to the building at drop-off/pick-up. All traffic must flow through the driveway and parents/guardians will need to stay in cars.
We anticipate that there may be a wait for parents/guardians during drop-off/pick-up time. If you’d like to opt for your child to ride the bus instead, please click here or contact our transportation department at 360-804-2652 to opt into transportation.

Counselor's Corner
Welcome and welcome back to another great year at Chain Lake Elementary! My name is Heather Mitchell and I am the School Counselor. I have been a counselor in the Monroe School District for 18 years and this is my 10th year at Chain Lake. I love being a part of this community. Your students are kind to one another and adults and they bring a smile to my face. I am here to help support your child, collaborate with parents, teachers, staff and much more. Throughout the year some things I will be doing are: being out at recess, offering lunch bunches, running small groups, teaching classroom lessons and connecting. I look forward to getting to know your child better this year!

A Note From the Library.....
The library has been so filled with so many happy and excited students, it's been amazing being back and having the ability for students to get books back in their hands! This week in library we have been discussing the rules and routine for library as well as sharing some exciting news such as makerspace making its return as well as our Fall book fair happening during conference week in Oct. and an all school reading challenge that myself and my fellow elementary school librarians have come up with for the year.
Reminders: If your student checked out books for summer reading or during the summer from the book mobile they can be returned to the library here and I will make sure they get properly taken care of and returned to their rightful places. Also the library is always happy to have parent volunteers for helping reshelve books, or help during makerspace projects :) and we are also able to accept donations for makerspace as well (items like: empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls, glue sticks, craft paper, card stock, stickers, beads, corks, pipe cleaners, old magazines, puzzle pieces, string, tape, etc.)
If you have any questions please never hesitate to reach out to me via email at swalwellc@monroe.wednet.edu
Happy Reading,

From our Chain Lake Health Room:
Just a few reminders related to our COVID protocols.
Please DO NOT send your child to school if they have any symptoms that could be related to COVID-19, even if you think they just have a cold. Without the daily attestations, we are relying on you to assess your child’s health status and appropriateness for school. Thank you for your help in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
We are now able to accept at-home test results. Please email a copy of the test results to the health room. Results will be kept in the students health file.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. The phone number in the health room is 360-804-3132 and the best email address is corriem@monroe.wednet.edu.
