COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Mrs. Goodwyn is your child’s school counselor. She will share guidance lessons regarding social/friendship skills, citizenship, decision-making skills, conflict resolution, personal safety, diversity, college and career readiness, and study skills with all students. Throughout the year small group counseling sessions are provided on a referral basis from teachers, parents, or the students themselves. Mrs. Goodwyn’s goal is to help our children have a happy and successful academic experience while growing socially and emotionally.

Parent Workshops will be scheduled for the Fall and Spring semester. Please complete the short survey to share your thoughts on topics covered and workshop times. You may click on this link:

PLANO WEST SENIOR HIGH HOMECOMING PARADE

We are very excited to host the Annual Plano West Homecoming Parade on October 5, 2016 at 6:30 pm. We will begin staging on Yeary, slightly east of Brinker, at 5:45 for the parade, followed by a Pep Rally in the Plano West Competition Gym. Your student groups are invited to participate in the parade and attend the pep rally. We hope to see student groups, such as cheerleaders, PALS, Student Council, sports teams, bands, choir, clubs, etc., from all feeders participating or just coming to watch. Groups may decorate a float, walk with a banner, ride bicycles, etc. Floats must not be oversized and no wider than one traffic lane of a street. Floats must be driven by a parent driver. The theme is Blue Nation to further establish the unity across our community.

Plano ISD Volunteer approval applications :

Anyone wishing to volunteer at Gulledge at any time during the 2016-2017 school year must go to the Plano ISD website and submit a volunteer approval application. Plano ISD runs a light background check on all potential volunteers to protect our Plano ISD students.

Volunteer Application https://oea.pisd.edu/volunteer or www.pisd.edu/volunteer - Remember that the PISD volunteer application/background check must be completed each school year in order to volunteer at Gulledge. If you have not already completed this application for the 2016-17 school year, please click on the link above. The application process can take up to two weeks, so don't wait until the day before an important event in your child's class. We need you and would not want for you to miss any volunteering opportunity!

Go to: https://oea.pisd.edu/volunteer/EntryPointHomeAction.do to complete the Plano ISD online application. When completing the form please be sure to check ‘Gulledge’ as one of the schools at which you would like to volunteer or you won’t show up on Gulledge's cleared volunteer list.

Approval doesn’t mean Gulledge's staff and PTA board members automatically know where you want to help at Gulledge. Your next step after you complete the background check is to login to your Gulledge PTA account and let people know where you want to help.

NOTE: Plano ISD purges its cleared volunteer list annually on June 30. EVERYONE must apply or reapply starting on July 1 of EVERY year.

COMMUNICATION:

PARENT PORTAL

The PISD Parent Portal https://parentviewer.pisd.edu is the primary resource for all online services provided to parents. In addition to providing direct access to grades and attendance, the Parent Portal also gives you access to your child's classroom information, district-wide information, and links to other often used services. Every year, it is necessary for all parents to electronically review/update several important documents. This year's portal is now open so that parents are able to complete this process. In order to receive your student’s teacher assignment when the information becomes available in Parent Portal on Thursday, August 18th, please complete all required forms in Parent Portal no later than Tuesday, August 16th. In the event of a change in address, please note that new proof of residency must be provided to the campus.
