Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible

Principal's Message

Dear Summit Street Families,

We are in for a warm week ahead! Monday and Tuesday will be warm days! Be sure to read your email from EWSD on the possibility of an early release on these days due to heat. There continues to be ventilation limitations with COVID restrictions and we know our classroom temperatures exceed outside temperatures.

This weekend you will likely receive your child's placement letter for next year. Please know that we spend a significant amount of time to build balanced classrooms for success for all students. We will be sure to let all students know on Monday if they have not received their placement letters over the weekend as sometimes we have a letter or two that takes a few days. We will have a Move-up time on the last day of school where all students will have the opportunity to experience their new classroom.

As I walk through the halls, I keep thinking about how resilient and happy our students are with their persistent and never ending smiles and laughter. We have all been on a journey together and we will miss them throughout the summer. Thank you for sharing your amazing children every day.

Best,

Suzanne

Summer Reading!

Coming soon! Summit Street School will be kicking off The Summit Street Summer Story: a school wide chapter book read along, on Friday, May 28th. Your family will receive a special package in the Friday Folder with your own copy of the chapter book and a packet of discussion questions and activities for each week. For those of you that want to listen to the book read aloud, we will be hosting a read aloud session on zoom each week on Wednesday from 6:30-7:00pm June 2nd through July 28th. We look forward to sharing the joy of reading with all of our Summit families!

The benefits of reading aloud are remarkable. Studies have shown that reading to children helps them to listen better and longer, to build bigger vocabularies, to understand concepts better, to feel positive about both books and learning – and much more.

When an entire school reads the same book, the buzz and excitement around the book augments these benefits. Reading a book together brings the added joy of building and expanding a sense of community among students, parents, teachers, and staff – and beyond.

Year End Prescription Medications Return to Families

If your child has an inhaler at the Health Office I will place it in their backpack on Monday, June 14th. If you would prefer to pick it up in person before that date please let the nurse know. Other medications such as epi-pens and seizure medications should be picked up in person on the last day of school. Please call the health office at 857-7644 to make arrangements to pick up medications. Thank you.

Please Return All Library Books

Thank you to everyone who has returned all their library books already! However we still have over 200 books out. Please spend some time this weekend trying to locate these books and return them ASAP!
