HOOT NEWS
Have a great week!
SAFETY REMINDERS:
The safety of our students is of the utmost importance and should always be in the forefront of you minds. Let's make sure we are consistently following campus safety procedures and security measures:
- Please make sure that your portable is locked throughout the day.
- Please remind students NOT to open doors for people.
- If you see someone walking the campus without an AISD badge or visitor badge, direct them to the front office.
- Be diligent and do not hesitate to report anything that looks out of the ordinary.
If you notice something suspicious, no matter how minor, tell us! Ideas about ways we can improve our safety procedures? Tell us! You are the eyes and ears on campus, and I want to hear from you.
SPRING PHOTOS:
Spring Photo proofs were distributed last week. Please collect any returned money envelopes in the large teacher envelope provided. Return your envelope to the front desk by Thursday, March 29. The office does not accept any late orders. Parents may send all late orders, and the $10.00 late fee, directly to the following address:
1st Photo Texas
9051 Anderson Mill Rd, Suite 100
Austin, TX 78730

SLO WINDOW AND DEADLINE:
SLO post test window opened Monday, March 19. The window will close on Friday, April 20. This is the final day to submit SLO scores for final verification. Teachers, please do not to wait until the last minute - this is a firm district deadline. Remember, all staff should be saving student pre- & post- tests for one full school year as documentation for their appraisal. The tests can stay in a safe spot in the teacher's room or in a designated area on campus, but they must remain on campus.
CLASSROOM WALK-THROUGHS:
Over the next month we will continue our classroom walk-throughs. We hope to see evidence of daily usage of Kim Sutton math strategies, evidence of small group instruction for Reading (and use of interactive strategies for students during read to self time), and differentiation. We are wrapping up all of our PPfT evaluations for this year and will begin the next part of your evaluation. We will go over this on March 30th at our PD day.
The gates on each side of campus will be closed and locked during the school day. Volunteers and classroom visitors will have to check in and out at the front office. We will have student badges for them to borrow while on campus so they can get in and out of the building. We will exchange a badge for their car keys (similarly to what the Read Naturally volunteers do) in order to make sure badges are returned. If you are in a portable, please inform your classroom volunteers of this new system. Latrese has emailed you the lock combinations. Do not share these combos with parents, students, spouses, or children. Thank for your help with this!
BLOOD DRIVE - Thursday, April 26th 7:30am – 10:00am
Doss Elementary is hosting a blood drive! Come lend a helping arm and save local lives. It’s easy, just make an appointment online. We’ll be stationed in the Parking Lot.
If you have eligibility questions, check out We Are Blood’s website. If you have more specific questions or would like assistance signing up, call We Are Blood at 512-206-1266.
For questions specific to our drive, contact Doss parent Amy Laibovitz.
*Remember! Eat a full meal before donating and bring your photo ID.
COPIERS
We need everyone's help to REDUCE the number of copies we make at Doss. Did you know we pay for the number of copies we make? And we’ve been significantly over our budget! Therefore, after Spring Break you will once again be required to scan your badge when you need to use the copier. Don't have a badge? See Adriana.
Here are instructions for using your badge with the copiers. Important Note: You only need steps 2 & 3 the first time you use any one of the copiers. After that, all the copiers will remember your badge:
- Swipe your AISD badge on the card reader area of the copier (top left on Owlasis copier and front left on the others)
- Enter your AISD network username using the touch screen keyboard then select Done
- Enter your password using the touch screen keyboard then select Done
- Select Copy on the display panel, enter the number of copies you need, and press the big green Start button
- When you are done, press the Login/Out light/button on the control panel and follow the screen messages
Let's be mindful of the number of copies we make and do our best to minimize waste. Thanks!

Tech tip - Nearpod is a website that has ready to use lesson plans for every subject. The student marches across the country on March 24 have inspired them to provide resources to support the facilitation of healthy conversations about civic engagement. Nearpod has partnered with iCivics to create lessons that inform students about the political process and added project-based learning experiences to inspire students to get involved in current issues. You can check it out atnearpod.com/s/civic-participation-F26529.
