Newsletter - 6th November 2020
Dear All
Thank you for your support this week with the government changes, imposing a National lockdown. We continue to wear face coverings around the building, a compulsory measure that the government introduced this week for schools. But we were already, reassuringly, ahead of the curve. We received the updated guidance from the government on Wednesday evening.
The guidance clarifies that clinically extremely vulnerable staff and students should not come into school. This is absolutely the right decision. We have put measures in place to ensure the continuation of learning for students of staff to whom this applies but this mean that there are more staff missing from the workplace, on top of those who are self-isolating; we have a clear tiered plan in place to manage scenarios of increasing staff absence which we will implement as required. Please do contact your students tutor immediately if you have any concern that we may not be aware that your son or daughter is extremely clinically vulnerable (CEV). (You would have received a letter from your medical practitioner confirming this). If a student falls into this category we will ensure that work is provided.
Students who live with people who are CEV, but are not CEV themselves, are still expected to come into school. If you are unsure, please click on this link to determine whether our student is CEV:
Finally, as a reminder please do not send students to school if they show any of the three key symptoms:
- Temperature
- Loss or change of sense of smell or taste
- A new continuous cough
If anyone in your household exhibits these symptoms, students should not come to school until a) the member of your family has had a negative test, or b) for 14 days from the onset of the family member’s symptoms. The student must also not attend school if they / you are contacted to say that they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.
Please keep us informed immediately should any of these scenarios arise on attendance@utcoxfordshire.org.uk
Stay safe
With good wishes
Sam
Today is National Saxophone day
National Saxophone Day commemorates the birth of the woodwind’s inventor, Adolphe Sax, on November 6th. The saxophone is one of the main instruments in jazz music. Saxophones are primarily made from brass. Brass is a composite alloy made up of metals including copper, tin, nickel, and zinc. The most common type used for instruments is yellow brass which contains 70% copper and 30% zinc. Other types include gold brass and silver brass which have different ratios. The zinc in brass makes the alloy workable at lower temperatures.

Feedback
As always we welcome the feedback we get from both you, your students, and the wider community. Periodically we send out a more formal survey to help us find out how we are doing and what we need to improve. Please would you help us out by completing our survey using the link below.
Please note that the survey close on Monday 9th November. The survey is anonymous.
It would be great to have your feedback on the virtual progress consultation evenings which could be commented on at the end of this survey
