We're here! And just like that, the school year is nearly over. Every year it amazes me how quickly they go by. As a parent of three girls that have left the nest and started their own families far away from me, I feel I would be remiss if I didn't throw out a small bit of advice to all of you parents out there. Make this summer count! Forget about how the house looks, how much laundry is piled up, etc. Go outside and play with your kids! Ride bikes, go on hikes, have picnics, go swimming. Make memories. Those dishes and that laundry won't miss you. You won't think back about how well you kept that laundry clean, or about your tidy kitchen when they are gone. You will think about those missed opportunities and wish you could get another shot at them. Have fun with your kids while they are still kids. You will never get this summer back with them. If you think about it this way it may put in perspective what I am saying: From the time your child starts kindergarten until they fly the coop, you will only get 12 summers. If your kids are like mine, those last few will be a struggle to even see them. That gives you less than 10. Today, they may be begging you to play with them. And just like that, YOU become the one that's begging.
