Traffic Safety Alert
Message from Coronado Police Department,
Once again welcome back to all students, parents, teachers, and staff members to the 2021-22 school year. As the year continues, we at the Coronado Police Department would like to provide some traffic safety information as well as a friendly reminder of some rules of the road. We would like to remind all parents and staff that white painted curbs are for passenger drop off and pick up only and vehicles must not be left unattended when temporarily stopped along a white curb. Additionally, when pulling into the drop off zones, vehicles are encouraged to pull all the way forward prior to dropping students off to maintain the flow of vehicle traffic and avoid traffic backups. A reminder also that red painted curbs are for no stopping or parking and are reserved for emergency vehicles only and are not designated drop off locations.
Please do not double park or drop off a student in the lane of traffic as it can cause traffic backups as well as it is not safe for the student to exit the vehicle in the lane of traffic.
Lastly, many parents and students ride their bicycles to school so please check your mirrors and blind spots prior to leaving the curb and entering the lane of traffic.
We thank you for your cooperation in ensuring our students, parents, staff, and community are safe!
Hispanic Heritage Month
CUSD celebrates the value of our diverse voices within our community and here during Hispanic Heritage Month we honor the contributions of our Latinx voices, culture, and history. CUSD is stronger because of our Latinx community. Want to learn more about the important terms used to describe the Hispanic/Latinx population? Watch this 1 1/2 min. video:
Thank you for welcoming our Curb Side Hosts each morning from 7:45-8:05 am. As you pull up the the white curb on H or 6th Ave, you can expect a Curbside Host leader to open your door and greet you. Thank you to Rachel Lozano for helping to organize and lead this valuable program!
Room 501- We will see you bright and early Monday morning to start your shift!
School Site Council (SSC)
School Site Council (SSC): We are still in need of 4 more parent volunteers! This is a great way to get involved!!
The SSC is an advisory committee that meets with the principal and committee four times a year to review our School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and improvement funds aligned with our school areas of focus that have been identified in our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). SSC members serve voluntarily for two years.
Link to an overview of the role of the SSC on the California Department of Ed’s website: http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/co/ssc.asp
If you are interested, please send a short biography of your background and interest in serving (fewer than 250 words, please) to Heidi Bergener at Heidi.firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday, October 6th to include in the ballot. Voting will open, via email link, on October 10th, with the ballot closing at 3 pm on October 14th.
Nutrition Department/Ice Cream Fridays (on hold):
My personal apologies for not letting families know before last Friday and for those who brought money for ice cream this past Friday, and were disappointed to learn that there was not ice cream to be served.

A HUGE Thank You to Village Families!
Thank you parent volunteers who gathered in the park to create the art portfolios for all the students (some are still in process but coming soon). Student art will be stored in the individual art portfolios and saved for the ArtWalk in the spring. Each child will get to choose one piece of art to display for the Artwalk.
We really appreciate all their time and organization! Thank you Mrs. Hardt for coordinating the art volunteers.
Students earn superhero tickets throughout the week for being safe, respectful, responsible and kind. They can earn them from any adult on campus who sees them exhibiting superhero behaviors.
Each Monday and Friday, after school, students will be able to bring their tickets in to trade for prizes. If they would like to save up their tickets, they can!
15 tickets=1 prize!
If your student has enough tickets to trade in for a prize, they will be escorted to the office before school lets out to pick a prize!
See below for other options.
