Crazy Doc's rant and raves...
Second quarter is rolling! Drills for the quarter are out of the way, assessment testing is not until the end, it will go quickly! Keep doing the great work for kids that you have been. Appreciate the work.
Quick hits:
- As you start to put your calendar together for the year, please avoid field trips on Wednesday (Wings), Thursday, and Friday.
- Please keep all tardy passes and send them home quarterly with the report card envelopes.
During your P/T conferences next week, please take a minute to either celebrate students and parents who have been at school and on time or to gently remind parents to have their students here by 8:50 and remain in school until 3:30. If you'd like me (Tarrasch) to be at your conference to discuss attendance issues, I'd be happy to support you!
Teacher Spotlight
Heather Hill & 3rd team: great job on the performance on Tuesday!
Do you have a idea for a person in the spotlight? Please let me know.
On-Going Reminders
- If you send a student to the focus room please do so with one of the tickets Casey has provided, that way she knows why they are there. If they do not have a ticket they will be sent back to class.
- Please follow the nurse's stoplight schedule.
- If you send a student to the office please make sure they have a pass.
- Please make sure you are not sending large printing jobs to the basic printers, please send these to the copiers.
- Lunch counts and attendance need to be entered by 9:30, or Terri will start calling.
Tips for Parent Teacher Conferences
- Consider where adults will sit. Not every adult can sit comfortably in a student chair or desk. Avoid sitting behind your desk.
- Share strengths and provide specific samples of the student's work.
- Share observations versus judgments. Avoid emotional language and "always" and "never."
- Discuss solutions, not just list the problems.
- Align yourself with one of the goals for parents.
- Develop goals and plan to achieve goals.
- Request parents' comments, suggestions, and feedback.
- Express appreciation for parent support and schedule a follow-up date.
Most importantly, GIVE HOPE!!! "I know you are worried. We have a good plan, and we will stay in touch about his/her progress. It will be a lot of work, but _____ is worthy of success in my classroom. And I'm here to help him/her."
