Dear Garcia Families,

February is already upon us, and it decided to bring some extra cold weather! We hope you all stayed warm and didn't experience loss of power due to the ice.

There are many events coming up this month, including Parent Info Night on the 16th. This will be a great time for you to learn what daily school life is like for your student, and you will get to experience how much more they learn and know than when we were their age! Doors will open at 5:15 for a short informational meeting in the cafeteria. Light snacks will be served. We will dismiss to classrooms from 5:30-6:30. We hope you will be able to join us!

It is also the month for Benchmark testing for 2nd-5th grade students. These tests follow the STAAR test format, and they allow us to see where students are and where we need to focus instruction for the remainder of the year. You can help your student by ensuring they get a good night of sleep, have a positive morning, and have a word of encouragement to do their best. We definitely do not want students to be stressed about testing.

Several events for 5th grade are coming up this month. On Tuesday, February 5th, they will visit temple High School Fine Arts department so they can see what options are available as they move into middle school. On February 7th, all Temple Middle schools (Bonham, Travis, Lamar) will have 5th Grade Elective Night from 5:30-6:15. Refer to the flyer in this S'more for more information. On February 13th, 5th grade students will be bringing home Middle School registration information to share with you. If you have any questions after receiving the information, please reach out to our counselor, Berenice Garza, for assistance.

¡Febrero ya está sobre nosotros, y decidió traer un clima más frío! Esperamos que todos se mantuvieran abrigados y no experimentaran pérdida de energía debido al hielo.

Hay muchos eventos por venir este mes, incluyendo la Noche de Información para Padres el 16. ¡Este será un buen momento para que aprenda cómo es la vida escolar diaria para su estudiante y para que experimente cuánto más aprenden y saben que cuando teníamos su edad! Las puertas se abrirán a las 5:15 para una breve reunión informativa en la cafetería. Aperitivos ligeros serán servidos. Saldremos al salón de clases de 5:30 a 6:30. ¡Esperamos que pueda unirse a nosotros!

También es el mes de las pruebas comparativas para los estudiantes de 2.º a 5.º grado. Estas pruebas siguen el formato de prueba STAAR y nos permiten ver dónde están los estudiantes y dónde debemos enfocar la instrucción para el resto del año. Puede ayudar a su estudiante asegurándose de que duerma bien por la noche, tenga una mañana positiva y tenga una palabra de aliento para hacer lo mejor que pueda. Definitivamente no queremos que los estudiantes estén estresados por las pruebas.

Pronto se realizarán varios eventos para el 5to grado.
