What you really need to know
Also, many many thanks for turning in Early Release forms on time!! We have another "early" release day this Wednesday, March 7 at 12:15.
It is, unbelievably, already time to schedule a spring conference to discuss your child's amazing progress so far this year! Our Bloomz sign up is live and you should receive a notification to sign up today. Our four conference days stretch from late March to Late May, so you can choose your preference for an earlier or later discussion. In either case, you will not receive your child's end of year progress report checklist until the last day of school, though we will preview the expectations and goals listed on the report regardless of when you schedule your appointment. I am very much looking forward to discussing your fantastic children and their efforts and achievements with you.
Thank you to our room parents Stacey (Elle's mom) and Julie (Molly L's mom) for planning and hosting a really enjoyable winter crafts party for our our class with the help and support of many parent volunteers! It really makes my job so much more fun to have folks like you who really want to be a part of your students' experiences at school. Thanks to our photographers for posting many photos of the event on Bloomz, as well.
Our recent mystery readers have surprised and delighted us with a variety of old and new favorites. Honorable mention goes to Bear's mom Cara who waited in the hall for way, way longer than I'd like to admit when I forgot it was a mystery reader day!! Yay Cara for giving us a real world example of how to be gracious and patient when somebody else drops the ball.
March book orders are due this Friday, March 9.

All in a days work...
- Since our last update, We have learned about Chinese New Year, President's Day and have celebrated the 100th day of school! We enjoyed a fun scavenger hunt for 100 pennies, have learned our way around a 100s chart and have decorated our space with "100 sprinkled" cupcakes and a gumball machine filled with 100 gumballs.
- We recently celebrated Dr. Suess' birthday by making oobleck (slime). We were pretty fascinated by the texture of slime, as it looks and feels like both a solid and a liquid. You should have received a slime recipe on the back of a science observation sheet in your child's backpack this week. We will continue to celebrate Dr. Suess by enjoying his books, rhymes, and silly characters for the next several weeks.
- In math we have learned the difference between 2D and 3D shapes and have been learning addition facts of 5 and beyond. We have been practicing using different strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems, such as using a number line or counting objects, and have been learning a lot about place value, adding tens and ones together to make larger sums.
- Our writing and reading focus has been on How To procedures. We have discussed How To do choice time, How To complete our morning routines at school, How To make slime, How to Teach a Slug to Read, and How To make a Snowman. Each student is currently working on a book of instructions telling How To make a snowman.

The things kids say. For real.
Student: Why? It doesn't have a tail.
Mrs. Cohen: I have no idea.
