Happy New Year! Here’s to a healthy, successful, and prosperous 2019 at DuJardin. A reminder to parents that students will be lining up outdoors and recess will take place outside unless the temperature drops below 10 degrees Fahrenheit including the wind chill.
Here is a quick update concerning staff development activities taking place at DuJardin during the month of January.
Friday, January 11th - Teacher Institute Day (students will be dismissed at Noon on Friday) teachers will work on standards based grading and reporting, specifically in the subject areas of math, science, social studies, and SEL components of the pilot report card.
Wednesday, January 16th is a School Improvement Day (students in grades 1-5 will be dismissed at 1:40pm.) the staff will continue its work on standards based assessment, grading and reporting.
On Friday, January 18th The DuJardin school improvement team (SIP) will meet to discuss the progress on the two school improvement goals: Implementing a standards based grading and reporting system and surveying students on engagement and empowerment.
The week of February 4th students in grades 1-4 will take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test. The OLSAT is designed to measure abstract thinking and reasoning ability. Students in grades 1-2 will take three assessments in verbal and nonverbal modalities while students in grades 3-4 will take one assessment covering both areas. Verbal and nonverbal scores in addition to the total score, provide a more complete picture of students’ abilities. OLSAT results will be shared with parents during the 3rd trimester.
Fifth grade students had a terrific time during their three-day outdoor education experience at Lorado Taft this week. If you follow DuJardin on Twitter @D13Jaguars or @djloradotaft13 you were treated to numerous photos, videos and updates thanks to Mrs. Frattinger and Mr. Wojcicki, “Tweeting from Taft.” Thanks to the DuJardin PTO for its financial support of this wonderful program, which included room and board payment for the DuJardin staff members and student scholarships. Thanks to Miss Burback, Miss Fenn, Miss Cross, Mrs. Harsila, Mrs. Frattinger, Mrs. Munoz and Mr. Wojcicki for their time, effort, and energy over a three day period for teaching and supervising DuJardin fifth graders. And thanks to the students for representing DuJardin School so well during their stay on the Taft campus. DuJardin staff received many wonderful compliments about the students from the Taft staff throughout the three day experience. A great time was had by all! See photos on Twitter @djloradotaft13 and @D13Jaguars!

5Essentials Parent Survey
2018-19 Illinois Parent Survey
Dear Parent, The Illinois State Board of Education invites you to participate in a school improvement survey for parents. Please Note: This survey is NOT a component of the 5Essentials Organizing Schools for Improvement Survey. In this survey, you will be asked to provide feedback about your child’s school. Please consider your child’s current experience at school (i.e., 2018-2019 school year). This survey is designed to help school and district leadership improve their understanding of the parent/school relationship.
All responses are completely anonymous. Responses to anonymous surveys cannot be traced back to the respondent. Additionally, your responses will be combined with other parents from your child's school and summarized in a school report to further protect your anonymity. Your participation in this survey is voluntary and you have the right to discontinue participation at any point.
If you have more than one (1) child, you may elect to participate multiple times.
The 5Essentials Parent Survey is now open. Parents are encouraged to complete this survey. Please use the following link to access the parent survey: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
