PHS Parent Update
October 31st, 2014
Happy Halloween and Welcome to November!
Happy Homecoming!
First, ASB and Kerry Lowell for the rally to kick things off on Tuesday, the entire spirit week of Hawaiian Tacky Tourists and class and PHS colors to be proud of, and a grand ceremony where Maddie Thomas was crowned Homecoming Queen.
Second, thanks to Lillian Granger and many others who organized the staff BBQ up on the Brazil Deck. Great to see the spirit up there and the young 'uns too!
Third, thanks to Assistant Principal Debi Richardson for coordinating the pre-game and halftime events. The alumni gathering on the field was a really nice added touch and Debi made a special point of remembering the true spirit of Homecoming. Thanks to Assistant Principal Tracy Bass for organizing the flow of the week and looking at the all the details. That is how events like these grow and improve each year.
Fourth, to Cliff and the band and drumline for looking great in their uniforms and marchin' on in. (BTW, they went down to Santa Cruz early the next morning and took second place in a very competitive field band competition. Many arrived back Saturday afternoon to attend Darcy Aston's memorial gathering at Post Wellness. As many of you know, Darcy (mom of 2 PHS kids) lost her battle with pancreatic cancer last month. We miss her remarkable energy in the music program and just for simply being Darcy...)
Sixth, thanks to Cheryl Reece and her crew of parents and volunteers for making the Touchdown Cafe the place to dine at PHS. Chicken Caesar salads, tri-tip sandwiches, a full gourmet menu equals a happy crowd and two Michelin Stars.
Seventh, everyone who mans the gates, sells tickets, broadcasts the game and keeps stats (Baldwins), keeps the crowd safe (thanks PPD!), and makes it a weekend that students remember.
Happy Homecoming!

FFA to National Convention
Steven Pozzi is also there serving as a National Delegate. As part of this position, he will interview the national officer candidates and help decide the final six members who will serve for the 2015-2016 school year. He will also debate and vote on national issues concerning membership and programs.
As a group, the team is also supporting Bryan Rocha, Jessie Peterson and Emma for earning their American FFA Degree. The American Degree is awarded to 2% of the FFA's national membership which stands at just over 610,000 students. The award is to recognize students for their outstanding leadership development and career success through their Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.
Joining Emma, Bryan and Jessie are Robby Tunzi, Mary Sonnichsen and Carly Olufs. Each of these students were awarded local memorial scholarships for their leadership development within the local FFA chapter and their commitment to agriculture through their beef, rabbit and dairy projects.

ATHLETICS ROUND UP
- Congratulations to our Boys' Soccer team for clinching the Sonoma County League title for the first time in eight years! Superb effort by the boys and Coach Lamansky and staff. They look forward to a solid seed in the NCS tourney.
- Girls golf took third in the SCL Tournament, capping a much improved year. Sarah Jane Catarozoli and Tara Thomas also qualified for the NCS Tournament, where they played solid rounds last week. Way to go, Coach Jones and all the girls!
- Well deserved applause for the varsity football squad who have moved to 7-2 on the season after a comfortable win at Elsie Allen. Currently in their bye week, they are preparing for the difficult challenge of a talented Analy Tiger team. We will be out to support them come November 7th.
- And cheers to the Freshmen squad for a convincing win over Casa Grande last week. Well done coaches and boys!
- Girls' soccer capped their regular season with 5-0 trouncing of El Molino on Senior Night. We are losing 9 soccer stars to graduation this year and their proud parents were out in force Wednesday night to cheer them on. The team goes into the seeding meeting this weekend with a 10-3-2 (9-2-1) record. Well done, Coach Daly!
- Girls Volleyball is off to the playoffs too. First stop is the SCL Tournament followed in all likelihood by a berth in the NCS tournament.
- Girls Tennis is in the thick of the SCL Tournament this week, trying not to look ahead to NCS competition upcoming. This group has been dominant all year, but will have to step up for the next level. Way to go, Coach DeCosta!
