Popcorn is prepared in the same pot, in the same heat, in the same oil, and yet…… The kernels do not POP at the same time. Don’t compare your child to others. Their turn to POP is coming! 😊
Thank you for helping us with the growing pains of starting a post-pandemic school year with a full student body back on campus. It is wonderful to have students and staff here and we are loving all the infectious enthusiasm and excitement. With the new year we have some key points to address with all families:
PARKING LOT
Please drop off and pick up students in the EAST parking lot only. The parking lot by the church is only for Busses and Staff and for our ILS or CEP classes. We know the EAST parking lot gets very crowded, but we do our best to get students and their rides in and out safely. Please do not ignore the direction of our staff in trying to direct traffic. The traffic is directed to exit at the most optimal direction at the time to eliminate congestion. Your patience is greatly appreciated, and your cooperation is needed for the safety of all concerned. Coming a little later to avoid the rush of traffic after school is not a bad idea, as well, to bypass the congestion that occurs at the end of the day. Please remember courtesy is always appreciated. Safety is our utmost concern so please do not drive fast in the parking area EVER. Thank you.
VISITORS ON CAMPUS
STUDENT PHONE CALLS HOME
If students need to contact their parents for any reason, we ask that they use the office phone and not their own cell phones. If we are unaware that they need something it impacts our ability to help them. Students should make calls from the office during school time. Students are not to have their phones out on campus during instruction time or walking between classes. Cell phone usage is only allowed before school, at lunchtime, and after school. Thank you for helping your students to adhere to these board adopted rules.
SCHEDULE CHANGES
Our classes are impacted, and counselors are working to meet requests for student class movement. Please note that these requests may not all be honored due to availability. Counselors will be working this week to do what they are able. We must meet teacher contractual obligations. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to balance our class numbers. It is not as simple as just moving a student from one class to another. In secondary education one move impacts a number of other students’ schedules and the number of enrolled students in other classes. It is a big puzzle and causes a domino effect. We recognize the urgency that some feel but we must process these moves methodically to meet all aspects dealing with the cap on class size and the teacher’s contract. Again, we appreciate your understanding. The counselors will be notifying families of changes as they are able to accommodate them.
STUDENT HANDBOOK
The 2021-2022 student handbook is on the FMS website under the STUDENTS tab. We ask that parents review the information in the handbook with your child as it states school expectations. For your convenience you may also access it through this link:

Thank you for helping us to support all students.
Yours in educational partnership,
Dr. Terri Daniels
PARENT REPRESENTATIVE BALLOTS
Please keep your eye out for our Parent Representative Ballots to be sent home via email later this week for those who have agreed to serve as members of the Folsom Middle School Site Council. Thank you to those who have agreed to accept nominations and for your commitment to the students of FMS. More details will be forthcoming later this week.
WHAT IS CURRICULUM SUPPORT?
Some students have gotten assigned to Curriculum Support for their elective and there may be some miscommunication on what this class actually is. Well, let’s say first what it is not:
· It is not study hall
· It is not Homework Club
· It is not an easy A grade
· It is not for wasting time…….
What it is:
· Curriculum Support is a class designed to assist students with developing stronger executive functioning skills to be able to organize and prioritize and learn how to successfully study to be productive in the middle school setting.
· Curriculum Support provides students with skills and study habits that will help them to be successful as they prepare for high school.
· Curriculum Support helps students to understand their unique learning styles and to choose strategies that work for them in order to be successful in managing a schedule with several different classes and teachers.
Mr. Colondres is the general education Curriculum Support Instructor, and he has lots of things planned to help students become better managers of their own studying to develop skills that will help them in their educational journey. Middle School is the time to get these skills figured out so that when students move onto high school they are set up for success. If your child has Curriculum Support we believe you will see much growth this school year on improvement with their study habits and their ability to become more independent in gaining mastery over their own learning. Thank you, Mr. Colondres, for bringing your expertise to our students.
