PARK PENCIL POINT NEWSLETTER
October 5, 2023
The mission of the Chardon Local Schools is we commit to high achievement for all students.
From the Principal Desk—
Hello Hilltopper Families:
It has been busy at Park this week with Picture Day, Vision Screenings in Grades 1 and 3, the school skating party and students engaged in their daily learning activities. I had the opportunity to pop in and visit the students and it is always so gratifying to see their enthusiasm and curiosity. Your students are critical thinkers, problem solvers and collaborators! They enjoy sharing their learning and ideas with each other and with me. We are extremely fortunate to have the BEST teachers and staff surrounding them, encouraging them and supporting them EVERYDAY!
Keep in mind that conferences are right around the corner and scheduling information is included below in this newsletter. Please be mindful when scheduling your conference time and if something changes, contact the office to cancel your appointment.
Thanks to the Park PTO for a fabulous Fall FUND Fest at Hornyak Farms last week! It was wonderful to see so many of you enjoying the corn maze, pumpkin patch, food trucks and other activities our PTO planned. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all of you for your support of our PTO-your generosity helps provide amazing opportunities for Park students and staff!
Have a terrific rest of the week and weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee

Looking for Veterans to honor at our assembly!
Park School will be having a short assembly honoring our veterans on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 9:45am. We would like to invite parents/relatives of our students who have served in the Armed Forces to attend this program. We would ask veterans to wear their uniforms, if possible. We would like to give each veteran an opportunity to share (1-5 minutes) with our audience their years of service, area of service in the Armed Forces, and what being a veteran means to them.
*Note: We are also asking that our Boy and Girl Scouts wear their uniforms for this day.*

Walking & Making Text-to-Life Connections
Mrs. Lannon's and Mrs. Tyson's Park Elementary 1st-grade classes, accompanied by Miss Roland and Mrs. Roesch, ventured outdoors in the City of Chardon for a walking field trip on this unseasonably warm October day today.
The mission? An observational opportunity to make text-to-life connections between the City of Chardon and stories recently read in class, including Geodes® decodable "A Library of Our Own" and "Just in Time" books.
The young Hilltoppers were observant, taking note of the changing foliage in this new season as well as the vibrant murals around town.
Keen student observations included the town's "Free Library" that appears in one of our town's murals; and an upstairs Chardon window with a cat reminiscent of the "Library Cat".
Additionally, students took note of people sitting under a tree in the mural near the Chardon Police station, reminding them of the books "Tomás and the Library Lady" and "Waiting for the Biblioburro".
Hilltopper 1st-graders surely demonstrated they are Continuous Learners and Critical Thinkers! #PortraitofaHilltopper
