Mid-Summer Updates
Sign Up for Bus Transportation for 2021-2022
- Bus routes are created to serve students who need transportation. The district has not yet received guidance from RIDOH or RIDE for next school year. To that end, we ask that families register for transportation services each year. We know there are questions as to what next year will look like in the fall, and as we await further guidance from the state, at this time we ask you to register as you would any other school year.
- Please consider signing up your child(ren) for the bus next year. Our parent pick up line is getting way too long. Next year, parent pick-ups will look different and as you know parking is quite difficult and congested at the school. With that said, I want to remind parents that bus routes are created to safely transport students to and from school. Please register for transportation services in the summer before school starts. Parents can go to the District web site and complete a registration form. Please refer to the directions linked here to submit your online bus transportation form. Please contact 401-364-1163 if you need further assistance.
Planning for the 2021-2022 School Year
On June 30th, districts received updated guidance by the Governor and Commissioner of Education for the start of the school year. More updates are coming in the next few days. I will send another update mid-August. As of June 30th:
All students will be in-person with no distance learning option for next year. A district plan will be developed in case children do have to quarantine (more details to come).
Stable groups (pods) are once again recommended; however, physical distancing is not required within stable pods. If more than one stable pod share a common space, then these stable pods will continue to be distanced at least 3 feet apart.
Teachers will continue to be encouraged to use the outdoor learning spaces.
- RIDOH is recommending districts to create masking policies for unvaccinated individuals. The district is working on revising our policy. There was a link to the draft policy in the Superintendent's August E-Update.
Class Placement Letters
Class placement letters for incoming grades 1-4 will be mailed out the middle of next week. As a reminder, there will be no changes to class lists.
Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Thursday, August 26th at 9:00 am in the Hope Valley School gym. A letter is being mailed out to families this week with more information. Kindergartener's will get to meet their teacher on August 26.

Summer Learning
All the information for summer reading and summer math was enclosed in the report card envelope on the last day of school. Please encourage your child to complete the summer math and summer reading sheets. I cannot express how important it is to keep your children engaged in learning during the summer months. Even for 10-15 mins a couple times a week goes a long way. The summer forms can also be found on our webpage at https://hopevalley.chariho.k12.ri.us/.
Summer Reading Information:
Click HERE to access the summer reading form.
Math Options:
1. Summer Math Menu
Complete 2-3 activities each week from the MATH MENU below. Spend at least 15 minutes on math activities and record on the Math Log. Here is the link to access the math menu: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1v3JD0jLkFvyRcgi5hcMU0EH7IS6R-WtnX6Sz8FTXR6E/edit?usp=sharing
2. Zearn Summer Math
A select number of students will have access to Zearn this summer and into next year. This is an amazing free opportunity to get extra reinforcement and practice so children are ready to enter next year. Thanks to a RIDE grant, our school received 75 licenses for students to complete Zearn over the summer. If you received a letter in the report card envelope, you can complete Zearn instead of the summer math menu if you prefer and you can track your Zearn minutes as well.
Ocean Community YMCA after school program
The Ocean Community YMCA after school program will be opened back up for the 2021-2022 school year. You can find information about the program by clicking here: http://oceancommunityymca.org/locations/schools-out-program/
