CAMP COLLEGE IS COMING SOON TO AVONDALE ACADEMY!
Mr. Matheson and his advanced art classes at Avondale Academy took part in a unique project one day titled “The Pollock Experience”. This project was conducted in a controlled space to keep the paint from literally getting everywhere. In the early part of the 20th century, Jackson Pollock was an influential American painter who played a major role in the abstract expressionist movement. He was well known for his unique technique of dripping and splattering paint across the canvas that was placed on the ground. So after learning about this painter my students and I grouped together around a piece of plywood and practiced this technique with old donated house paint. The students enjoyed getting a bit messy as they dripped and flung the paint around and in the end we created a beautiful piece of art to share with the school.
STUDENTS HEADING TO THE DETROIT INSTITUTE OF ARTS ON FRIDAY!
Over the past few years Mr. Matheson and his students would study a piece of art in the classroom on a daily basis and have group conversations about them. This is known as VTS (visual thinking strategies). On June 3rd Mr. Matheson and Mrs. Mow will be taking the senior class of Avondale Academy to the Detroit Institute of Arts. For most of the students this will be the first time in the museum. The objective of this field trip is to explore the museum and practice or VTS skills. The students will go on a scavenger hunt of sorts to find artwork around the museum. The students will finally get a chance to see the magnificent art in person and develop more of an appreciation towards the fine arts and the history behind it.
All returning students must register for the 2016-2017 school year. No student will be allowed to start school on September 6th unless they have registered. A Parent or Legal Guardian MUST accompany their student to register. Parent or Guardian will need to bring a Driver’s License or State ID with their Current address. Any family that has had a progress or report card returned “undeliverable” will also need to bring a current utility bill which has been delivered to the home to verify the address. Student ID pictures will also be taken. Please reserve the following dates and times:
August 23rd: 8am – 1pm
August 24th 8am – 1pm
August 25th 8am – 1pm
The Academy office will be open during the summer on Wednesday morning from 8am – 12 noon.
