Just a reminder – the colour Fun Run will be held tomorrow afternoon…fingers crossed the weather is good!

We have some staffing news that I am able to share with you – Dyon Hunt has been offered an ongoing teaching position with Elsternwick PS and will not be returning to Parkhill. Many of you will have worked closely with Dyon and will share with me in wishing her the very best in her future endeavours. Dyon is an excellent teacher and will be missed. Lucy Renshaw will continue her travels in Europe and has been granted a further 12 month's leave – she will return to us in 2021. Bianca Bevilacqua will stay with us into 2020.

We continue to work through our 2020 staffing model and will be able to share more information soon. Student class allocations are nearly complete too. Things come around so quickly in term 4!


It’s hugely concerning that many of our students as young as Y3 are actively engaging in social media practices. How many parents are truly aware of their child’s online activities and how many platforms they are accessing? Many children in our upper school are known to have Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat accounts – which is very concerning.

I ask you to check your child’s device – check their device history and be more aware of what they are doing online. We hear lots about online safety and how to help our children access the online world safely.

There are many places you can find information about what legal ages apply to what platforms and guidelines for parents to help support their children. Online activity is something that is monitored at home but has a huge impact on the playground.


Self-esteem is about liking yourself and who you are. This doesn’t mean being overconfident – just believing in yourself and knowing what you do well.

For children, self-esteem comes from:

  • knowing that they’re loved and that they belong to a family and a community that values them;

  • spending quality time with their families;

  • being encouraged to try new things, finding things they’re good at and being praised for things that are important to them.

But is self-esteem the only thing that impacts a child’s wellbeing?


It was such a super evening on Tuesday to enjoy the hour long choir spectacular presentation. The children were confident and well prepared, singing so many songs and entertaining the audience – we even joined in!

I would like to thank Marinda and Kirsten for the work they have done and time they have dedicated to the children in our choir – I feel so very proud of the group.

Public speaking and performing is such a challenge for so many children, every opportunity they can get to ‘have a go’ is just super!

Athletics Carnival:

We have our Athletics Carnival coming up on 19th November!! As always we are looking for helpers!! The day relies heavily on parent support for us to be able to manage all of the events – if you are available please drop me an email so I can add you to the list!

2/3L STEAM Eureka Towers

As part of our structures unit, and tying in almost every facet of the STEAM roster, 2/3L went and visited the Eureka Tower. Surviving a bracing bus ride and avoiding scaring the public, 2/3L enjoyed the amazing views of the 88th floor. They were amazed to learn that the top of the tower is coated in pure gold and that someone managed to climb the 88-floors and 1642-steps in just over 9 minutes! After the tower, 2/3L had a leisurely walk along Southbank and inspected the cityscape for different shapes and materials and speculated upon the purpose of each of the buildings. Once home, they put their thinking to the test and built their own cityscape using all the materials they had experimented with over the term. A huge, HUGE thank you to the two wonderful mums who volunteered their time.

International Day for Tolerance

International Day for Tolerance falls on Saturday 16th November this year and promotes respect and appreciation of our world's cultures. The Parkhill SRC felt it important to recognise this day and celebrate the diversity in our unique community.

On Wednesday 13th November students from across the school merged into multi-age groups to explore the concept of diversity and tolerance. During the day got to know each other a little better, celebrated our differences and worked hard together to solve a paper challenge. Many thanks to the SRC for running the morning sessions in their own classroom and to the teachers for working with students across the school, promoting tolerance.

It's important that we all play a part in promoting tolerance, understanding that diversity across communities is not a reason for conflict, but is a treasure that enriches us all.

Performing Arts

This term, students in Foundation to Y4 have become actors, directors and cinematographers when they created movie trailers and stopmotion videos. Ranging from taking videos for a pre done script to writing their own scripts and filming with props of their own, the movie trailers and stopmotion videos are testament to how much students can learn in a very short time.

As Ravyn and Ben from 4D exclaimed, “We just loved media art! We got to use our creativity and imagination to make movie trailers of our choice”. Samples of some of the students’ work can be seen in Episode 18 of Parkhill TV. Students in Y5 and Y6 have understood the importance of the audience perspective in media arts. They have learnt how to conduct interviews that not only draw information from their interviewees but also entertain their audience.

Choir Connections

It was standing room only on Tuesday night and a buzz of excitement filled the room as we waited for the Choir Spectacular to begin.

The choir students performed 16 songs for parents, friends, staff and special guests that included everything from pop songs and musicals to soulful songs and lullabies. We also celebrated the United Nations Year of Indigenous Language through song and shared some of the behind the scenes activities that take place in a Friday morning choir rehearsal.

It was a fabulous night, we laughed, sang and performed in front of a terrific audience.

Marinda and I would like to extend a very big thank you to our choir students who were outstanding as well as the Parkhill Community for your wonderful support of our special evening.

Are we taking a break you ask? Most certainly not!

Rehearsals continue this Friday as we have our Community Day on Sunday and the upcoming Fun Food and Carols to prepare for.

Community Day

There has been a change of time for the Choir Performance at the Community Day event at Batesford Reserve.

Arrival Time

All choir students are required to arrive PROMPTLY at 1.20pm.

Students are to meet at the front of the Waverley Basketball Stadium where we will warm up and then walk down to the main stage together where we will be performing at 1.45pm


All choir students are required to wear the NEW school polo top and blue shorts/skorts.

This means:

  • No summer dresses or winter skirts

  • No tracksuit pants or leggings

  • Hair should be neat and tidy and off the children’s faces.

  • No footwear with flashing lights etc. to be worn.


Please ensure there is a parent/carer present with your child/ren AT ALL TIMES. There will be no supervision provided at the Community Day so your child/ren remain your responsibility throughout the event.

Your wait is finally over - Stargazing at Parkhill is booked again for Tuesday 3 December. We shall have a warm night and (hopefully!) no rain while we view the stars in all their wonder. Stay tuned for the release of times.

Parkhill Colour Fun Run - Rescheduled. Friday 15 November 2.30pm

Our aim is to reach $12 000! So far, $8 170 has been raised and F/1C is STILL in the lead for donations!!!! However, it F/1T is super super close! To start fundraising for your child, sign up here and share the link with friends and family!!!!!!! The more your child fundraisers, the better choice in their prize of Lego or sports equipment!!! GO PARKHILL!!!!!


Children will be able to earn a thankyou reward for their fundraising efforts (Get Active and LEGO) and there will be a special surprise reward for all children in the class that raises the greatest amount of money.

Depending on how much is fundraised, your child can choose one awesome prize from that category. After the Colour Fun Run a link will be emailed for your child to choose their prize (subject to availability).

BRING A WHITE T-SHIRT for the Colour Fun Run

Remember tomorrow to pack a light coloured or white T shirt into your child’s school bag. This is an extra fun way to show-off the colours from the dye on the day. There will be an early afternoon brain food break, then straight after, the fun run will begin at 2:30 pm. Parents and Guardians are most welcome to come to cheer on their loved one.

Would you like to hold a stall at this years Fun, Food and Carols? If you are interested in selling homemade goods, craft, 3D printed items, fresh produce, food, anything at all secure your spot now! It costs $30 to have a food stall, $20 for a non-food stall and $10 to run a stall if you are a student. If you are interested, please email the PFA and a full information sheet will be sent to you.
