PAST WEEK - Academic focus
As principal, I make it my priority to visit classrooms everyday. I can attest that our students are learning. Students solve math problems using their intuition of addtion, subtraction, multiplication and division. They use manupulatives to build models to explain their thinking. Students visualize content read to them and transfer their thoughts pictorially.
Teachers plan engaging lessons that motivate students to grow and learn using real world problems.
- In first grade class, students were describing shapes such as trapezoid, rectangle, and octagon and one after the other they solved math problems intuitively.
- Students from first grade class who read their 100 or 250 word list to me knew to sound a challenging word out phoenetically.
- Kindergarten classes are sounding out their three aphabet words and pronouncing the words.
- I observed a "book tasting" restaurant in one sixth grade class where students had opportunity to taste different genre of books.
- Another 6th grade class prepared and created such a welcoming environment for their classmate who was returning back to school after some personal challenges. Students learn best when the culture in the classroom is positive and that is what we strive to maintain in all our classrooms everyday.
- I observed a class meeting were students were reflecting on their experiences in that class.
- Teachers are teaching one BEST lesson every week.
- Buena Vista elementary school is raising amazing scholars and we are proud of all our teachers and the amazing work they are do everyday.
- So much positive engagement goes on each day in Buena Vista and we owe it to all our awesome teachers and staff who are focused on student learning. I truely cannot list everything.
PAST WEEK - SAFETY COMMITTEE
To solve this problem, we have secured a crossing guard in front of the school during drop off and pick up times. We have also asked the Sheriff's department for help. We all do better when they are parked infront of our school. So they never observe the dangerous driving habits we sometime exhibit. bI will continue to ask them to be here to be a check on all of us. I will request that we all do our best to follow best driving practices to keep everyone safe.
