West Middleton Update
~A Compassionate, Collaborative Community that Supports Learning For All~
A few quick updates from Mrs. Krych ~ November 2018
I can't believe that we're already 11 days into November and that Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. Time sure flies when you're having fun!! And speaking of fun, we've definitely had a lot of it this week. On Thursday afternoon we had an all school dance party to celebrate all of the amazing ways our students have been showing the Wolverine Way over the past month. On Friday, we enjoyed our biggest celebration from the Wolverine Dash fundraiser, a gym full of bouncy houses and an obstacle course!! The kids were awesome and followed the Wolverine Way by being safe and responsible so we could jump to our hearts' content. A HUGE thank you to our AMAZING PTO, all of the volunteers who made it happen, and our staff who supported our students. Our final Wolverine Dash celebration will be next Friday, November 16th. We will have an all school PJ and popcorn party. Don't forget to send your child in their comfiest PJs (you know that the adults secretly LOVE this celebration too, right?).
One of our school goals is to continue to focus on and increase not only the amount but the depth and authenticity of our family engagement. We believe that parents are our partners in their child's education and we know that you have your child's best interest at heart. Please know that we are here for you and your child. In order to reach more parents and share as much information about WM happenings as possible, I am going to start creating some short videos on different topics that might be of interest to our families (The Wolverine Way, PBIS, how you can support your child's reading at home, etc.). If you have any ideas on topics that you would like to know more about or things you think more parents should know, please send me an email at kkrych@mcpasd.k12.wi.us.
Take care of yourselves and each other and I hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving.

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) November Updates
Wolverines have been working extremely hard at being responsible this past month at West Middleton! October's focus of learning has been on being responsible in the bathrooms and hallways! We are currently working as a building towards the goal of 1,250 tickets to earn a dance party! Check out the thermometer on the office window as to how we are progressing!
We will have an assembly on Monday, November 5th where we will announce our October student's of the month and staff of the month. We will learn about what it looks like and sounds like to be respectful on the bus. Our focus for the month of November is Being Respectful. Starting November 5th students will be earning different colored Pride Paws on the bus to go towards different levels of rewards. When 1,000 tickets have been earned students will earn a song to dance to during morning meeting, at 2,000 tickets students will earn music in the lunchroom, and at 3,000 tickets students will earn music and free seating in the lunchroom. We will be filling the bus windows up to watch us earn our goal!

Parking Lot Reminders
Here is the information on our drop off and pick up safety plan from the WM Family Handbook:
Busing is provided to all West Middleton students with the exception of Open Enrolled and Alternate School Request students. We encourage students to utilize our transportation due to the congestion on Mineral Point Road and in our parking lot. If you must transport your child you must remain in your vehicle while dropping off/picking up at all times. You can drop off/pick up on the left side of the bus lane. If you come into the school with your child you must park your vehicle in a designated parking stall. Please do not drive down or park on the left side of the building (when facing the building). There is no curb on the sidewalks and this is a heavy student walking traffic area. Please be extremely cautious and alert at all times when driving in the school parking lot. There is no supervision provided for students before 7:25am, so please do not drop off your student before then.
Updates from the School Nurse, Jenna Blizard
Hello Wolverines!
To those of you whom I have not had the pleasure to meet already, my name is Jenna and I’m the new school nurse at West Middleton Elementary. I’m looking forward to a great school year with you and your child(ren)!
This month I will be meeting with the Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade classes for vision and/or hearing screenings. If there is a concern about the results of your student’s screening, they will first be rescreened 1-2 weeks after the initial screening, and you will receive a letter home for a referral to their physician if there is continued concern after rescreening. If you have any questions or concerns about their results, please contact me via e-mail: jblizard@mcpasd.k12.wi.us
Additionally, we have inevitably reached that time of the year where illness abounds. Because there are students within the school who are extra susceptible to getting sick, please be aware of when to keep your child home. Per district policy, your student must stay home until they are fever free (oral temperature of less than 100.0F) without medication for at least 24 hours. Other guidelines include keeping your child home if he or she has an illness such as a sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, or cough that will prevent him or her from functioning in class. It is best to keep your child home until food is tolerated if they experience a stomach bug. If your child misses school and is seen by a medical provider that day, don’t forget to ask for a school excuse!
As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding the health needs of your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to the health office. May it be a healthy year for everyone!
-Jenna, RN
Updates & Info from Our School Social Worker
It’s getting cold outside and we want to make sure that our little wolverines stay warm! We have winter gear at school and would be glad to connect your student with anything they may need. Please let your child’s teacher or our social worker, Emily Stockbridge, know if your child could use some winter gear. ~ estockbridge@mcpasd.k12.wi.us or call/text (608)616-0169 ~ If you’re looking for ways to help other wolverines, we can always use more waterproof mittens and gloves. **Please remember to label all your child’s outerwear. Our lost and found is filling up and the best way for your child to get their items back is for us to know who they belong to.
WEEKEND FOOD PROGRAM
The Weekend Food Program is providing free food to students at each of the six elementary schools in MCPASD. The program provides healthy snacks and some small, easy to prepare, meals for children on Fridays during much of the school year. If you would like to donate to this program, you can do so through the MCPASD Education Foundation. Here is a link: Weekend Food Program Donation Link And if you would like to sign your child up for this program please contact Emily Stockbridge.
