A Message from your Principal, Katie Johnson
Dear Families,
Throughout the year our teachers administer a variety of assessments. These assessments are designed to help us get to know your child better and to plan their individual learning journey.
Multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) is a framework that schools use to provide ALL students with the support they need to succeed. MTSS is based on the idea that all students learn, but some students may need more support than others. This framework is used to give targeted support to students who do not meet grade level expectations and to students who exceed grade level expectations. It is our goal to identify students early and intervene quickly. Our decisions are based on data and observations to grow all learners.
Within MTSS, there are three tiers of support.
Tier I: All students are taught with methods that research has shown to be effective academically, socially, and behaviorally. All students are screened three (3) times per school year to support continued growth in all areas. Teachers use flexible grouping and differentiated instruction to address student strengths and areas of need.
Tier II: Some students who show the risk of not meeting or exceeding grade level standards, skills, and/or dispositions receive more targeted support in small groups with an increased level of intensity. Acceleration groups are scheduled in addition to Tier 1 instruction.
Tier III: Students who require more intensive support continue Tier 1 & 2 activities, while also being provided support that meets the individual needs of the student. Tier 3 acceleration offers a student highly individualized, systematic, and explicit instruction in an area of assessed need. Although the programs, strategies, or interventions may be similar to those offered at Tier 2, the intervention is classified as “intensive” if it is individualized to meet the needs of a particular student and the duration and/or intensity of the intervention is increased to accelerate student response. Tier 3 interventions may involve more time or more individualized interventions.
As we begin to dive into the beginning of the year data, we will identify students who may require additional support or interventions to grow. As we do so, you may receive a message from your child's teacher or school interventionist informing you that your child will be receiving intervention at school. As always, you are encouraged to contact your child's teacher if you have questions/concerns regarding your child's learning journey.
MTSS is a collaborative process that involves teachers, parents, administrators, and other school staff. It is important for parents to be involved in the process so you can better understanding your child's needs and how we can work together to support your child's learning. MTSS is a powerful process that can help all students succeed. We appreciate your unwavering support, and I hope this information is helpful.
Respectfully,
Katie Johnson
Families please remember to include Ms. Sorn in on your attendance and/or transportation changes. This will ensure the office is aware of any changes especially when teachers are absent themselves. You can email at ssorn@ccsd66.org or call the attendance line at 630.783.5199

Also, the library is looking for Play-doh if you are interested in sending some in.
