How to improve your study sessions
Not making the grades you want?
Let's face it, no matter how hard you study, you just can't make the grades, right? Well it could be because you're studying wrong. Yup, you can study but it doesn't do much if its not done productively.
Ways to improve your study habits:
Focus only on your homework!
You study best without distractions. Choose a place without a tv or computer (if you don't need one). If you do use a computer, you can find many lock down browsers that you can use to lock sites that may distract you. Finding a distraction free, quiet space will greatly improve you memory, making your study sessions worthwhile.
Don't cram!
Flooding your brain with information the night before a test will get you no where. Sure, you may remember a few terms of information but you could remember a lot more if you spread your study sessions out. Choose a time where you can study each day and stick to it.
Organize your information and use mnemonic devices!
One of the best things you can do is organize the information into chunks. Group small concepts and terms together. Relate new information into older information from that unit.
Another thing to try is to create a device to help you remember. These are called mnemonic devices. You can make up a song, joke, etc. to help you remember certain bits of information.
One last thing:
Remember that you probably won't get much done if you get frustrated. Take a break and do something, but don't turn on the tv, computer, or pick up your phone. You'll never turn them off again. Instead try going on a walk or run around your street. Do something that will relax you and then try again. Call a friend or get a parents' help if you need it. You don't have to do it alone or while you're frustrated.
