In Touch with TG

September 29, 2022

Dear Toll Gate Families,

We are one month into school and here at Toll Gate you can feel the energy of students, teachers and staff. There are so many wonderful things to share and we look forward to seeing parents/caregivers tonight at our Back to School Night.

For over half the school community, this will be your first in-person Back to School Night and I am overjoyed with having you back in the building. I will say it again tonight, but please try to take one thing that you learn tonight back to your child. Celebrate your child and their successes here at school, tell them how proud you are of them and let them know you love them.

I look forward to seeing you tonight.

Best,

Jane-Ellen

Week of Respect | Oct. 3 - 7

October is World Bullying Prevention Month and the state of NJ celebrates the first Monday in October of each year with the Week of Respect.

We will recognize the week with spirit days, classroom lessons and our first Gator Group meetings on Friday.

This is a great opportunity for you to talk to you children about respect and what respect looks like at home and outside of school. Our announcements and activities will be linked to our Character Strong core ideas and monthly theme.

Students are welcome to participate in the following spirit days:

  • Monday: "Together, We Can Be the Change" ~ wear blue
  • Tuesday: "Work Out to Work Through Conflicts" ~ wear athleisure
  • Wednesday: No School
  • Thursday: "Teamwork Makes the Dreamwork" ~ wear team-themed attire
  • Friday: "United, Not Divided - Let's Respect Each Other" ~ wear You Matter shirt (or TG gear)

Diwali Community Event

We are hosting an after school district wide event for elementary students on October 11th from 4:30-5:30 pm in the Community Room at Central High School.

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights and will be celebrated on October 24th this year. The district will provide elementary school aged students with an opportunity to learn more about Diwali and to create a craft that is related to the celebration. If you are interested in having your child participate, please sign up HERE. Space is limited so please sign up early. All supplies for the craft will be provided by the district.

Grade 5 Pretzel Sales at BTSN

The Fifth Grade Committee will be selling pretzels and soft drinks at Back to School Night. If you would like to purchase a snack during the evening, please bring cash.

Student Absences | Call TelSafe

Please remember to call the Telsafe line, 609-737-4008, option 2, to report all absences or tardies.

We also ask that parents leave reasons for absences on that line. You can call ahead if you know about a planned absence or lateness. An email to a teacher may not be seen if the teacher is absent that day.

Our attendance policy does require us to track both excused and unexcused student absences.
