Week Of May 27th
Memorial Day
Highlights from last week....
Our focus last week was how things are similar and how they are different. We read stories relating to this topic and answered questions relating to the text.
In Math, we finished our module on counting and teen numbers.
A peek at our learning this week....
This week our class will be reading stories about the ways we can protect our environment. Children will learn about endangered animals and the ways we can help protect animals in their habitats.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: environment, protect Discuss ways your child can help to protect the environment, such as reducing, reusing, and recycling resources.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Words: help, too, play, has, where, look, who, good, come, does Write sentences that include each of the review words. Have your child underline each review word.
Category Words: names of baby animals Gather stuffed animals, animal toys, or animal books. Point to and identify the name of each animal, and then state the corresponding baby animal’s name.
Phonics: long a, e, i, o, u Create a five-column table on paper. At the top of the table, write the vowels a, e, i, o, and u. Say a word with a long vowel sound. Have your child point to the column where the word belongs. Then write the words in the corresponding columns.

We have so many fun things planned as we wind down our school year! We will continue to stay in the routine of the day, keeping the structure and expectations the same.
We have been practicing daily for our Nursery Rhyme Play. This event will be on Friday, June 7th at 1:30. Each class is responsible for acting out 4-5 nursery rhymes, giving every child a part and some special time up-front on stage! A notice about what your child should wear for the play was sent home Friday. We have most of the props! Please do not feel like you have to purchase anything! Let me know if you have any questions!
Our Field Trip to the Ecotarium is Friday, June 14th. Please sign the permission slip and return it to me if you have not already done so.
Field Day is June 10th! Please put sunscreen and bug spray on your child the morning of Field Day.
Just a reminder, June 17th is our last day of school. Dismissal is at 12:00. Breakfast will be served that day but lunch WILL NOT be served. The Kindergarten Team is planning to have an ice cream social on that day at 11:00 in place of lunch! YUM!
As always, if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask!
Have a great week!

Notes from Mrs. Marcoux
We have been so busy! The children are so excited about the upcoming events. Our nursery rhyme play will be on June 7th, the children have been working so hard at this and I can't wait to see it all come together. Our field day will be on Monday, June 10th. Please put sunscreen and bug spray on your child. We don't want anyone getting a sunburn while we are having fun outside. I ask that you do the same for our field trip on June 14th to the Ecotarium. I hope we have good weather that day!
Please contact me at your convenience if you have any questions about upcoming events.
