A word from Mr Broom.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope you've had a wonderful Christmas holiday break. I did, once the dreaded lurgy passed! It's been a lovely week in school. The children have returned with a real buzz for learning seen in many classes. Long may it continue.

Our Personal Learning & Thinking Skill Focus for this half term is 'Creative Thinker' and I lead an assembly on this on Tuesday which led nicely into our Big Bang whole school project launch around Magic. We had circus performers join us for the day, working with each class to engage and enthuse the children with a sense of awe and wonder. Throughout the rest of this half term, magic will be at the centre of learning.

Thank you to everyone who completed the parent questionnaire which was on the final issue of last half term. It's still below so if you would like to complete it if you haven't already done so, that would be most helpful.

Finally, enjoy the weekend and we look forward to next week which looks very exciting.

Uniform Reminder

It's really important that our children come to school in the correct uniform. We've seen an increase in children wearing brightly coloured trainers especially, and from a safeguarding aspect, dangly earrings are not permitted. Please ensure that your children have black shoes for school.

Thank you.

MAT Consultation

I sent out some information regarding our proposed conversion to an Academy. Here's the link if you didn't get it:

In addition, there is a parent/public consultation event taking place at Tadcaster Methodist Church on Monday 22nd January, from 1830 to 2030. Please feel free to attend if you would like to hear more and ask any questions.

Parent Questionnaire

As always, your opinions and comments are most welcome as we continue to drive our school forwards. Please take the time to complete this short questionnaire. Thank you.

Flu Vacines Available

For those of you who would like a Flu Vaccination, Selby Clinic have a drop-in session on Tuesday 16th January from 1530-1700.

Train to Teach with the STAR Alliance

If you thought that you’d missed the chance to train as a teacher, perhaps it is time to think again –with the School Direct programme through STAR Teaching School Alliance, you could train to become a teacher in a local primary school in less than a year.

For those interested, please see the attachment below.

It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate, we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!

Congratulations to our Year 6 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 100%.

As you can see below, our attendance in most classes is above the national average which is fantastic. Thank you for your support on this.

The overall attendance this term is 97.2% and is above national averages. Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.
