September 8, 2022

Dear Erickson Families,

Tomorrow is SPIRIT DAY! Encourage your child to wear blue and gold (yellow) or Erickson spirit wear tomorrow. The classroom with the MOST spirit in each grade level wing, will win an eagle to display outside of their classroom. Let's SOAR with school spirit tomorrow!

During the month of September, Erickson will support hunger awareness and collect canned food items to donate to the Bloomingdale Food Pantry and the Northern Illinois Food bank. This is in partnership with the Character Counts Bloomingdale Coalition. Students can bring in food items (check the flyer below for most needed items) to donate throughout the week and place in the marked bins in the lobby.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, comments, or feedback. The best way to reach me would be via email or phone: sjohnston@sd13.org or 630-529-2223.

SAFETY DAY - September 23 (date changed from Sept. 14)

On Safety Day, we practice a variety of safety drills: fire drill with the Fire Department, the severe weather drill (tornado), and the lockdown drill with our Police Liaison, Officer Jaffey. We also review recess, lunch, classroom, hallway and bus safety. Practicing these drills and reviewing expectations ensures students know what the safety expectations are and what to do in an emergency.

There is an option to opt out of the lockdown drill. If you would like to opt out of the lockdown drill, please send me, Mrs. Johnston, an email stating your desire to opt your child(ren) out of the drill.

NWEA MAP Assessment & Aimsweb Assessment

All grade level students will take the NWEA Reading and Math MAP Assessment during the next two weeks: September 6-16. This assessment is administered to students three times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring) and provides classroom teachers with valuable information related to current academic achievement in math and reading. We ask that students try their best on these assessments. Please refer to classroom communication for specific dates and times for testing.

To gather additional information about students’ skills we will be Aimsweb benchmarking students in the areas of reading and math during the month of September. This is a quick assessment.

    BUS INFORMATION

Please expect buses to run a little late for the first few weeks of school as drivers are learning students' names and bus stop locations. I will be riding each bus home at dismissal, over the next few weeks, to learn routes. It is recommended to be at the bus stop 10 minutes before the expected arrival time. If you have any questions about the bus, please fill out the form below. Bus routes are created by the bus company. Every student is routed who lives more than 1.5 miles from school. If you do NOT want the bus service because you pick up and drop off everyday, please fill out the same form below to decline bus service. Bus riding families were sent an email regarding signing up for the First View Bus Tracking App. Here is the information to reference if you are interested: BUS APP INFORMATION

    Erickson Bus Route Question/Concern

Please take the time to review the Erickson Family Handbook. Each class will meet with Mrs. Frattinger and myself to discuss school rules and procedures. Ask your student how to SOAR in the hallways, in the classroom, on the bus and during recess.
