New Haven Tidbits
Posts from the Principal
Welcome March!
Spring is in the air, or at least I'm hoping that's what it is! The weather has been pretty mild, and I think we are all ready for some outdoor weather. We are just entering the last quarter of the 15-16 school year, and are gearing up for a great finish. We've had some pretty amazing things happening at New Haven the last few weeks.
I did want to share that the if there are no additional snow days (fingers crossed) and upon Board approval, the last school day for students will be May 25th. Please also keep in mind that using this date, the state testing window will be May 9th - May 20th for all 3rd through 5th graders. Our students will only test 3 to 5 days within this window, and we will let you know exactly when that is as soon as it is set.
In the spot light....
New Haven has the BEST Kids ever!
As we enter this time of year, there tends to be a lot of emphasis put on state testing. I wanted to share with you some of the awesome things that our kids are doing that goes beyond that- that highlights the "total package" that they have to offer. These are the things that I LOVE to share that they don't "report" in the newspapers- but should!
Our kids prove every year how smart they are, but rarely do we get to showcase how well-rounded they are as well. We have gifted kids in all areas, from academic, and athletics, to creativity and problem solving. I am beyond proud of all of our kids, and who they are growing into. Our school family does an amazing job working with our kids, and providing opportunities for all kids to shine!
First shout out that I want to give is to one of our kindergarteners and pre-schoolers.
New Haven had 2 winners from the Special Olympics Regional Art show.
1st place winner Adam S. , who is also moving on to the state level, and 2nd place winner Clinton T. These boys did a beautiful job on their painting and mix media submissions!
New Haven Academic Team
Archers
This team, only in it's 2nd year, has zoomed straight to the top. Not only have they just blown the competition away this year, we have 6 of the top 100 archers in the Elementary Division for the state in our building! (Pictured from top Left: Austin Bailey, Drew Dickerson, Jaden Hunt, bottom left:Haley DePas, Ally Engle, and Brooklyn Irvin. )
There is more! This amazing team has an article about them in the Genesis Bow magazine. Here is the link http://www.genesisbow.com/new-haven-tigers-archery/

Questions about 16-17 placements
So what does this mean?
We need you to be an integral part of your child's success throughout the year. You are their first teacher, and see something's that we do not. We will be accepting placement requests from parents this year; however; the requests will follow specific guidelines that will allow us to make the best match for student success. Requests are not guarantees, nor will all requests be honored. Ultimately it will be about creating the best learning environment for everyone, while trying to match the qualities that best meet your child's needs.
Request letters must:
- Explain what specific academic or social needs your child has.
- What qualities / characteristics in a teacher would best meet the needs of your child?
- Address other concerns if applicable to placement. (ex: health, personality conflicts, etc.)
- Be turned in to Mrs. Goble no later than Friday, May 13th. ( can be written or email) mary.goble@boone.kyschools.us
Please help spread the word about enrolling...
I know what some of you are thinking! We're not even through this school year, but this is when the process begins believe it or not. We begin juggling two school years for preparation. There is 1 major component that I need your help with please- Getting the word out about enrollment!
For the last 2 years now we have had to add Kindergarten and 1st grade classes after school has already started. This is because we are allocated teachers based on how many kids are enrolled ( our numbers are looked at in March, and then revisited in the summer, and then not again until after Sept. 15th) We are experiencing very LATE enrollments, which makes it impossible to plan and hire for classrooms. Not to mention, puts everyone in a situation of reducing class sizes, after students have already started to build relationships with teachers.
Why is 1st grade such an issue? Many of our students are at private day cares that provide kindergarten instruction and then day care for the remaining day. This year alone we registered 30+ first graders we did not anticipate. Please spread the word to help us out.
You can register your child for the upcoming school year AT ANY TIME, but we will be kicking off kindergarten enrollment on March 29th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. You will need to bring several items, including your child, on this evening. More information can be found on our webpage, but I've also included the registration packet below.
