THE TERRORS OF OVERFISHING
By: Damian Ramirez
WHY IS UNSUSTAINABLE FISHING BAD FOR THE OCEAN ECOSYSTEM
THEY'RE THAT OUR OCEAN ECOSYSTEM IS EFFECTED BY.FISHERMAN BECAUSE OF THEY LOOK FOR ONE SPECIES AND THEN IF THEY DON'T FIND THE RIGHT SPECIES AND THEY THROW THEM BACK. THERE ARE SOME NEGATIVE EFFECTS AND THEY ARE THAT IF YOU OVER FISH THE FISH POPULATION DROP AND THE POPULATION IS ALREADY LOW AS IT IS BUT IF WE STOP OVER FISHING. THE MAIN REGIONS THIS IS HAPPENING IS THE U.K BUT THERE IS OTHER PLACES WERE OVER FISHING IS BAD NOT WORST THAN THIS PLACE. THE WILD LIFE MOST AFFECTED IS THE BLUE FIN TUNA. THIS ISSUE IS NOT AFFECTED IN LEAGUE CITY,TX.THE ISSUE CAN POSSIBLY REACH OUR AREA BUT MOST LIKELY NOT. PEOPLE WILL BE AFFECTED IF THE FISH POPULATION KEEPS ON LOWERING.THE ISSUE IS CAUSE BY FISHING INDUSTRY AND ALSO FISHERMEN.CLIMATE CHANGE ALSO CAUSE THE ISSUE. THE BEST SOLUTIONS FOR THE ISSUE IS FOR FISHING INDUSTRY TO STOP FISHING SO MUCH. WE SHOULD PUT A FISH LIMIT LIKE 4 TONS OF FISH IF YOU GET MORE THEN YOU WILL BE FINED AND THEN YOU NOT ALLOWED TO FISH FOR A WEEK. THIS SHOULD IMPLEMENTED. BECAUSE THE FISH POPULATION IS DECREASING. LETS STOP OVER FISHING

Many marine ecologists think that the biggest single threat to marine ecosystems today is overfishing. Overfishing occurs when the quantity of fish harvested or pulled from the ocean is greater than the amount that can be re-supplied by growth and reproduction. Giant ships use state-of-the-art fish-finding sonar to find schools of fish. The ships are like giant floating factories—they contain fish processing and packing plants and freezing systems and have powerful engines to drag enormous fishing equipment through the ocean. As you can imagine, depleting the fish population drastically alters the ocean food chain. Setting limits on fishing based on current fish populations and their ability to repopulate through growth and reproduction can help reduce overfishing.
