Husky Howler
November 13, 2020
We're excited to announce that the Federal Government's School Lunch Program has been extended through the end of the school year. This means that ALL students can take a free breakfast or lunch every day they are here. We strongly encourage our families to take advantage of this program. Click for our breakfast and lunch menus: HRES Menus
We've been challenged by the MIND Research Institute to take part in their November Challenge: A new month means a new ST Math Challenge! In each week of November, any school that averages at least 60 minutes for the week will automatically be entered to win a JiJi Parade or Virtual JiJi Visit! JiJi will also send a special shoutout to your school to let you know you’ve been entered in the drawing!
Our Huskies should be logging into their ST Math accounts (via Clever) on each of their at-home days. Let's show JiJi how PAWsome our Huskies can be!
Sincerely,
Mr. Rich, Principal
Our hybrid students brought home with their 2020-2021 Feinstein Junior Scholarship Club cards over the past two days. Our AVA families can swing by the school during regular hours to pick up theirs.
If you are new to Hill-Roberts and have not received a card before, this card is very valuable! Through Mr. Feinstein’s generosity, this card gives you access to many opportunities throughout the year. Check the back of your student card to find out its benefits.
New this year is the Feinstein Golden Ticket! Make sure you check your numbers and let us know if your number is called! You can check your number each week by visiting The Feinstein Foundation's Facebook Page.
Annual Flu vaccinations had been added to the list of required childhood vaccinations. Check with your pediatrician to schedule yours now. The flu vaccine can also be administered by a pharmacist for children 3 and up. This is new within the last few weeks. Please contact your pharmacist to see if you need to make an appointment, and what their procedure is. Some pharmacies also offer a small incentive to get your shot with them.
Please send in proof of your student's vaccination, you can even take a photo of it and email it to me.
Important Reminder:
“The State of Massachusetts Department of Public Health has mandated that influenza immunization is required for all children 6 months of age or older who are attending Massachusetts child-care, pre-school, kindergarten, K-12, and colleges and universities. The new 2020-21 school year vaccine requirement is an important step to reduce flu-related illness and the overall impact of respiratory illness during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
- All students are required to have received a flu vaccine by December 31, 2020 for the 2020-2021 influenza season, unless either a medical or religious exemption is provided.
- Please send in written documentation to the Hill Roberts School Nurse as soon as your child has received their flu shot. If you have not already done so, please take this time to make an appointment for your child’s flu shot.
- If your child requires a medical or religious exemption, please provide the documentation to the School Nurse. Also exempt are K-12 students who are homeschooled.
- Elementary and secondary students in districts and schools that are using a remote education model are not exempt.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Sherri Knight-Cloud, BSN, RN, NCSN
School Nurse
This Week in Health
Hello Parents of our Huskies! It is hard to believe it is November already! With that in mind please send your Husky to school on days they have Health with comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sneakers. We do try to get our Huskies outside during Health as much as possible but of course, that is weather dependent and we are going into the colder months.
We began Section 2 of the Term on October 26. This means that the in-person specials changed for your Huskies. In the Health classroom, we are focusing on how to keep our body and mind healthy. We learned how to prevent illness, who we see when we feel ill or to prevent illness, germs, hygiene, and how this year is different than previous years with new guidelines on keeping yourself safe and healthy. In class, your Huskies are moving and learning. Specifically, we are learning Yoga and Mindfulness and how they help keep our minds and bodies healthy. Your Husky should be able to teach you about Yoga and Mindfulness, they enjoy doing Yoga in class and I am sure they would love to show you! In addition, your Huskies are learning how nutrition helps keep the body healthy or heal from sickness or injury. We are currently learning all about the Five food groups. Your Huskies are learning how to use these food groups to build a healthy and nutritious plate and the benefits of trying new foods. I think your Huskies would love to show you what they are learning by helping out in the kitchen!
-Ms. McKay, Health Teacher
Happy Friday HRES families!
