Snow Days - Will School Be Online?
At this time, snow days will NOT consist of virtual or remote online learning for school district students. Why? K-8 students do not take computers home each night. Computer/internet access as well as adult supervision for younger students would be major challenges for many L-S families if the school district required K-12 learning during a snow day.
Special School Board Meeting on Thursday, November 5 at 5:30 pm in MS Gym
The school board set a special meeting for Thursday, November 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the elementary/middle school gym to vote on whether the superintendent position will be advertised as full-time or part-time and if the school district should hire a search firm to assist in the hiring process. Community members are encouraged to attend the November 5 meeting to hear the data gathered and voice their opinion on the two topics.
Contact Tracing News
Contact Tracing - Current Practice in Iowa:
- Exposure is defined as 6 feet for 15 consecutive minutes.
- Exposure is defined as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated. Individual exposures added together over a 24-hour period (e.g., three 5-minute exposures for a total of 15 minutes).
The school district will continue with current contact tracing practice in Iowa until reviewed and adopted by the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Positivity Rate in Jasper County
The positivity rate for each county located at https://coronavirus.iowa.gov/pages/percent-school-district-positive-analysis As of Wednesday, October 28, 2020, the positivity rate for Jasper County is 11.0%.
Due to several student safety concerns brought to our attention, parents should not drop off or pick up students in the area highlighted in green on the map below. Vehicles parked in this area after school cause visibility issues for students using the driveway crosswalk (near portable stop sign). Additionally, the school district discourages parents from dropping students off on a school driveway in the morning. A drop off in this area creates a hazard for students exiting a vehicle as well as creates blind spots for students using the driveway crosswalk.
Parents are encouraged to use the drop-off and pick-up lane in front of the K-8/high school school or park in a designated parking area and walk your student to and from a school sidewalk.
Thank you for your cooperation.
