Why I chose Science Section (Dewey Decimal: 502.8 - 538)
The standard that I chose to focus on are as follow:
Kindergarten
SKL1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about how organisms (alive and not alive) and non-living objects are grouped
SKL2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to compare the similarities and differences in groups of organisms.
1st grade
S1L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the basic needs of plants and animals.
2nd grade
S2L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the life cycles of different living organisms3rd grade
S3L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the similarities and
differences between plants, animals, and habitats found within geographic regions (Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont, Coastal Plains, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau) of Georgia
4th grade
S4L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the roles of organisms and the flow of energy within an ecosystem.
5th grade
S5L3. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to compare and contrast the parts of plant and animal cells.
The materials would be used to enhance the lesson plans and also serve as an extension to the lessons. For example, teachers can use the books to present more information on a topic that a textbook doesn't cover. For instance, if the teacher wants to give more details about habitats found within geographic regions she can use one of the books from the science collection in the media center on habitats in Georgia to give students more information. Also, students can use one of the books in the science collection to study habitats in Georgia or complete an assignment or project.

3. Make sure to record the book in the system as being weeded from the collection and comment why the books were weeded.
4. The books will remain in the library until the end of the year.
While the book is in the media center students can still read the book but can not check it out. The books must remain in the media center. At the end of the year, the director will request for all media specialist to box all the books. Must include the title of the books and school name on the outside of the box.
