George Southard's Family News
BACK TO SCHOOL AUGUST 2022
OPEN HOUSE
Thursday, September 1, 2022
Grade K: 4:30-5:30
Grades 1-4: 5:00-6:00
This is an open house format, and students and families are welcome to visit at any time within the allotted hour to see classrooms, meet the teacher, and drop off school supplies. Kindergarten and new students to George Southard will receive a "Passport" to guide their visit and tour the building.
Outdoor fun will include stations to join the PTA, board a school bus, visit community partners, and play on the playground. Outdoor activities will conclude at 6:30pm.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.
The Fair will take place from 9/1-9/6 in the GS Cafeteria. In addition to Open House, families are welcome to shop the Book Fair in the cafeteria on 9/6 from 11:50-1:00 following student dismissal. Please use the back cafeteria door.
This year, say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account.
Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

All students attending Open House will receive a ticket for a FREE Book!
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
All families are encouraged to purchase school supplies this year. This is an exciting experience for students to start the year. School supply lists can be found by grade level on the LCSD website at: https://www.lockportschools.org/supplies.
Click on George Southard and find your child’s grade level.
Students should also bring a backpack and a water bottle to school daily. Water bottles can be filled at one of the filtered water stations in the building. A “Home-School Communication” folder will be provided to all students. Students will go outside for recess each day, so please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather.
STOCK THE LOUNGE
Let's energize the George Southard staff for another year ahead!

MORNING ARRIVAL
Morning Drop Off Procedure: (Locust Street Lot)
Student drop-offs should arrive between 9:10 and 9:20am. Vehicles can park in the Locust St. lot or on Locust St. during morning arrival.

Morning Bus Procedure: (Bus Loop)
Buses will release students beginning at 9:10am. All bussers enter through Door 2.
Breakfast:
Research shows that eating breakfast is correlated to higher attendance rates and improved concentration. Please ensure your child either eats breakfast at home or arrives at school on time to eat breakfast.
Optional breakfast in the cafeteria will be available from 8:45-9:10am for drop-off students. Parents should park in the Locust St. parking lot and escort students to Door 2. Please do not drive through the bus loop or drop your children off before this time.
After 9:10, breakfast is available for all students in the cafeteria.
Breakfast ends at 9:20am.
AFTERNOON DISMISSAL
Kindergarten- All students dismiss through Door 1 at 3:30pm.
Grades 1 & 2 (C. Ottaviano & Peracciny) All students dismiss through Door 1 at 3:35pm.
Grade 2 (Bax, A. Ottaviano, & D’Amico) and Grades 3/4: Bussers dismiss through Door 2 at 3:35pm. Pick-ups dismiss through Door 1 at 3:35pm.
Students will remain in the classroom until their dismissal time. Calling rooms to dismiss students earlier than their dismissal time is a disruption to the learning environment.
Please do not unexpectedly pick up your child between 3:00 and 3:35pm, as this creates unnecessary traffic in the office at the end of the day.
If special circumstances require a change in your child’s regular dismissal, a written note should be sent in to the teacher and forwarded to the Main Office in the morning written by the parent/legal guardian.
If a special circumstance arises after the child is at school, please call the school by 2:30pm to notify the Main Office of the change, and the teacher and student will be notified.
All students must be picked up by 3:35pm.
