Letter from the Principal

Dear Lions Park Families,

I am so proud of how hard our children are working on the benchmark assessments. We celebrate the growth of our students at this time of year. While I know some students may not achieve the score they hoped for, we know there are many ways to measure growth and learning and one test score does not capture the breadth and depth of their progress.

On Thursday, May 11th is our Fine Arts Night where we will showcase the art work of all Lions Park students, enjoy music from our choruses and provide an opportunity for students to visit our Book Fair with their families. If you are coming to see your child's artwork, you can come anytime between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. You can stop by for five minutes to see your child's pieces or spend longer walking all the hallways of the school seeing the art of all students. The third, fourth and fifth grade choruses will be performing from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the gym. The Book Fair will be open from 3:30-7:00 p.m.

June 1st is the last day for all students and it will be a full day of school. On May 19th I will send out an electronic permission slip for our PTO Kona Ice treat on the afternoon of our last day. That last day is also special for our fifth graders. On their last time leaving Lions Park, we do a "clap out". Students and staff line the hallways and the students do a last walk through the halls of Lions Park as students. They exit at 3:20 to the courtyard where parents usually gather to congratulate them. Families are welcome to make signs or posters and take pictures of their children and their friends. Mark your calendar for this day and join us if you can. We also have an award ceremony on the morning of June 1st at 10 a.m. Parents of students receiving presidential awards will be invited. Students in fifth grade who maintain an "A" average in math and/or reading all year AND score in the 90th percentile or above nationally on the spring MAP test are honored. As soon as testing is completed next week, parents will be notified. The students know from past years that the award is given, but the students receiving them are surprised.

As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Katie Kelly

Principal
