Social Emotional Learning (SEL) at Hooker Oak

Lessons taught weekly in our Hooker Oak Classrooms by our Wellness Team Staff

Ms. Erin, Ms. Nicole, and Mrs. Rose

We have been enjoying our new Wellness Center in room 19 this year. If you haven't already, please come to check it out!

TK-1st Grades have been learning all about feeling with our Kimochis lessons.

2nd Graders learn The ToolBox The 12 Tools, Tools for Learning*Tools For Life

3-5 Grades participate in our 2nd Step Curriculum. Our classes have completed lessons about Growth Mindset, Goal-Setting, and Emotion Management, and we are now focusing on Empathy and Kindness. The last unit of the year cover Problem-Solving.

We all celebrated Pink Shirt Day Feb. 22 with acts of kindness and created a chain of kind acts that you may have noticed in the main hall last month.

Update from Ms. Nicole, TK-2nd Grade

We've been having a lot of fun in our TK-2nd grade classrooms with our Kimochis and ToolBox social-emotional learning lessons with Ms. Nicole. The 2nd graders have finished learning about the twelve Tools. Look for their workbooks in their homework folders in a couple weeks and ask about their favorite tool. Our TK-1st graders have learned about sad, brave, silly, cranky, proud and kind feelings this past month. Many of them have colored their own Kimochis to take home. Kimochi (KEY-MO-CHEE) means "feeling" in Japanese. We use small pillows with a feeling printed and one side and a corresponding facial expression on the other to navigate age appropriate situations, like making new friends or handling conflicts on the playground.

Sprouty Store Wishlist

The Sprouty Store was a huge success last year, and we need donations for the new school year! The Sprouty store is a monthly student store that is available for 1st-5th grade students. Throughout the school year students earn Sproutys, Hooker Oak's school money, and they can spend them at the store. The Sprouty Store is able to happen from parent donations. You can check out our Amazon wish list, which gets directly sent to Hooker Oak, or if you spot something you think students will enjoy you can drop it off at the office. We appreciate all donations to the Sprouty Store!
