M-Step Testing

Please review the M-Step information outlined below. I will continue to update you on pertinent details and samples from MDE. You may also sign up for the M-Step listserv and have updates sent directly to you by following the link in this flyer.

Key things to know:

  • The M-Step tests will be given to students in grades 3-8 and 11
  • In 2015-2016, the tests will be given to students in grades 3-11
  • The ELA and Math tests are computer adaptive, meaning the questions fluctuate based upon the performance of the student
  • Students in grades 4 and 7 will take a science test
  • Students in grades 5 and 8 will take a social studies test
  • The science and social studies tests are NOT computer adaptive rather a fixed form with multiple choice questions similar to the tests given in the fall of 2013
  • Fenton students will take the tests online
  • MDE purchased a portion of the Math and ELA tests from the Smarter Balanced Consortium and educators in Michigan created the remainder of the test
  • See the samples and rubrics below
