Chapel
Pastor Matthew Earls from Northern Lakes Church spoke at our chapel today. He shared key verses on salvation and our identity in Christ.
Romans 10:9 says, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
Ephesians 2:8-9, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, so that no one can boast."
It is so easy to put our worth in what our friends think of us, how we perform in school, how athletic we are, or in anything other than Christ. Our identity and worth are found in Christ. We can find true peace and joy in Him alone.
At our next chapel on January 23, board member Mr. Bob Schauf will be our chapel speaker. Chapel is at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday at the dome (next to the main building). You are invited to join us!

End of Quarter Celebration and Mrs. Bartlett's 50th Birthday!
Mrs. Bartlett's 50th birthday landed on the same day our quarter ended, so we celebrated both at the end of the day on Thursday, January 18. The 4th-8th grade students made cupcakes for everyone in STEAM class. It was also Annabella's birthday, so we had lots to celebrate! The day ended with Sharks and Minnows, one of the student's favorites!
Ice Lanterns
Our 2nd/3rd grade students made ice lanterns this week!
This has been a bitterly cold week. All of our recess times have been indoors due to the cold, but the sun has been shining! Each season brings its own beauty.
The students were able to make ice lanterns that were ready to take home because it doesn't take long for things to freeze in these temperatures!
Ascension Academy students have the opportunity to explore with hands-on learning, collaborative projects, and discovery opportunities to prepare them for life inside and outside the classroom.
Bible Class
Ezekiel is the twenty-sixth book of the Bible and the fourth prophetic book. Ezekiel was a member of the line of Levitical priests. It appears he ministered in Babylon for about 20 years, between the ages of 30 and 50 years old. Interestingly, those were the ages God designated priests to begin and end their service. This week covers the first ten years of Ezekiel’s ministry up until the fall of Jerusalem in 587/586 BC. The residents of Jerusalem were exiled in stages. Ezekiel was a part of the first exile in 597 BC, at the same time that King Jehoiachin and Jerusalem’s elite families—about 10,000 people altogether—were sent to Babylon.
The book of Ezekiel is somewhat unique in its visions and metaphors, and Ezekiel’s
interactions with the Lord and the Heavenly Host. We will read about metaphors that
God had Ezekiel act out or describe for the people. Word pictures are very important in his
ministry.
God’s sovereignty and holiness are central themes in the book of Ezekiel. In fact, The Baker
Illustrated Bible Handbook points out the phrase “I am the Lord” appears 70 times in Ezekiel.
The sin of Judah and Israel is also an important theme this week. God reveals that the
Israelites were idolatrous even during the exodus, bring the idols of Egypt with them. The glory of God leaving the temple in Jerusalem is a key event in Bible history. We won’t read of God’s presence in Jerusalem again until John 12—when Jesus entered the city, riding on a donkey.

- Who spoke to Ezekiel? What did God call Ezekiel to do? (Ezekiel 2)
- Who was attending the Lord? Where did the glory of the Lord move to? (Ezekiel 10:18-20)
- What did God promise to do in Ezekiel 11:16-21? What did the people need in order to walk in the Lord’s statutes? Who could provide that?
