Principal's Message

Hello Stetson Families,

We concluded our first full week (five days in a row) of school this week! We also completed our first 6- day cycle of classes. At this point, all students should be familiar with their remote and cyber schedules and got a chance to meet and connect with all of their assigned teachers for this marking period.

teachers and students are becoming more familiar with each other and the technology ins and outs of our virtual learning every day. We want you to know that we are available to help support your family should any issues arise. Please feel free to contact our tech support team if you need additional computer help. You can find this support on our district homepage.

Our 7th and 8th graders started interscholastic sports this week. We have been practicing social distancing during our workouts and during drop off locations in the parking lot. We ask that parents please try to use appropriate speed in our parking lots for the safety of our students and staff. In addition to our 7th and 8th graders attending workouts, we plan to run intramural sports for our 6th graders at the conclusion of our PIAA sport season. Please stay tuned for more information on that.

We will be hosting a virtual Open House this school year. It will take place on October 1st. Please mark down the date in your calendars. This will be an opportunity for parents to hear from your child's teachers in middle school. As the date approaches, there will be more details to follow!

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend. Enjoy the fall weather!

Mrs. Puchalla

Sports Physicals need to be uploaded on Family ID.com by September 21st. Our coaches have designed a specific workout schedule for each sport. Please contact them about specific time schedules. Reminder: there is no activity fee at this time during virtual learning.

We have been working on getting all student athletes to complete impact testing this week. This is a requirement that needs to be completed once. Please see our Athletic Director, Mr. Corcoran, if your child is unsure if they still need to take the test. He is also available for any additional sports questions at wcorcoran@wcasd.net.

Additional Reminder to all parents to please stick to the specific designated drop off and pick up areas for our work out sessions. This is extremely important so that we can follow CCHD guidelines. We want to be sure that all students are safe, wearing a mask and practicing social distancing when entering and exiting school property.

Advisory--Remote Learners

We have a new class added to our remote learning 2.0 schedule called Academic Support. During this Advisory course, we will be working with our students on improving and supporting their executive functioning skills such as organization, time management and assignment completion. Your child will be providing you with access to a Google weekly planning sheet. This will increase communication between you, your student and our teachers. Our goal is to provide you the confidence to support your child's academic success.

All students are required to attend this class. Attendance will be taken each class period. I hope you have gotten a chance to look at the planning sheet below. It was sent to you by your child and is updated weekly. If you have not, please have a discussion with your child at home and reach out to grade level administrator if you have any additional questions.

Message about Attendance--Cyber & Remote Learners

When a student misses class due to a doctor appointment, please email the teacher whose class they will miss and Mrs. Sadik (lsadik@wcasd.net) in the Attendance Office. Please ask the doctor for a note and email/scan a copy of the note to Mrs. Sadik so the missed time can be entered as excused.

Reminder that students are to attend all FOUR classes each day. If they miss 2 out of the 4 classes, they are officially marked absent for the day.

If you child is going to be absent for the entire day, we need a picture of a written note with your signature in order for the absence to be excused. Any email without a signature will no longer be acceptable for an excused absence.

Nurse's Corner--ALL STUDENTS

Stetson Library Resources:

The Virtual Library can be found on Schoology, as well as from this link: http://library.wcasd.net/7058170/researcher

Digital resources include MackinVIA and Junior Library Guild, which include both fiction and non-fiction. Plus there are a LOT of informational databases available: Gale, InfoBase, (both cover a wide range of topics and reading levels), Culturegrams (for Social Studies), and Encyclopedia Britannica. The AccessPA POWERLibrary and POWER Teens include even more! They are a part of the public library databases, as well as Stetson’s.

Information on accessing these can be found on Schoology in the Stetson Library Group. The access code DTKX-JX4M-9PK6P gives your child passwords, links, and Screencasts.

The Print Library is also available! Directions and a Screencast are on Schoology for how to place a hold: Your child can locate a book they want to check out in the catalog http://library.wcasd.net/7058170/researcher. To place a hold, the student logs in with their School ID number and their computer password. PLEASE wait for a confirmation e-mail to your child that the book is available. Books will be checked out and bagged with your child’s name. Books are due in one month.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns about library resources: e-mail is best smslib@wcasd.net
