the TV

what people did before the TV

Radio provided a large source of entertainment. It wasn't just a way of playing music there were comedy and entertainment programs that the entire household stopped to enjoy. There were great radio programs like the Jack Benny Program which ran for three decades and was a massive hit. It's hard for modern audiences to appreciate but Jack Benny was a huge star and his show achieved phenomenal ratings that modern day TV schedulers could only dream of. The radio was also the only way to enjoy live sport if you couldn't actually get to the game.

The invention of the television was the work of many individuals in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Individuals and corporations competed in various parts of the world to deliver a device that superseded previous technology. Many were compelled to capitalize on the invention and make profit, while some wanted to change the world through visual communication technology.
