Also for 8th Grade...
Please make sure that all 8th GRADE BRASS AND WOODWIND PLAYERS (aka everyone but percussion) needs to purchase "Standard of Excellence Book 2" by the end of the month. We will be working out of this book throughout Trimester 3. Having the book WILL COUNT towards the "materials" part of our students' grade.
You can purchase the book HERE or at any local music store (make sure to purchase for YOUR instrument. You can purchase the regular book - you do not need to purchased the "enhanced" book).
7th Grade: International Tour
Please remember that students should be practicing their excerpts each week with a metronome - these performance assessments do contribute to each students' grade. Students who miss a lesson, without consulting me prior to or the day of, will receive a 0 for their performance assessment. If a student misses a lesson, they are responsible for learning the piece for their next lesson!
PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT FOR NEXT WEEK (due to no school this week):
- Norway at 95 bpm
6th Grade: Travel Through Time
Students were excited to remain in the Classical Period, because we got to work on Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik or, as it is affectionally known by our students, "EKN". Many students were able to recognize the main melody. I'm looking forward to another productive week of performances this upcoming week!

We've also been listening to recordings in jazz - remember, the best way to learn the jazz style is to LISTEN!
Time To Upgrade - And Here's the Proof!
A special THANK YOU to 6th grader Liz and 8th grader Chaeyeon who helped with the videos!
As Liz plays her high notes on the Rico recording vs. Vandoren recording, you can hear a BIG difference. While Rico reeds are ideal for younger players (since their ultimate purpose is to produce a tone), Vandoren reeds give more support as students progress onto high notes. After our recording, Liz even said, "WOW! The Vandoren just felt so much better on the high notes and I've only been using it for a week!!!"
Chaeyeon's difference is even more apparent!!! We actually had to take our Rico video TWICE - even more astounding - she is playing a half size LOWER on the Rico Reeds (her Rico size was 2.5 and her Vandoren size was 3 - technically, it should've been easier to play the Ricos). Chaeyeon has been playing on Vandoren reeds for the entire year!
