How Do I Help My Child Become a Better Reader?
Twenty minutes a day is all it takes to develop key reading skills. Incorporating some simple strategies at home will allow your child's reading to soar. Here are some strategies you can use to build a better reader!
READING IS THINKING!
Example Questions for Rich Discussions:
Predictions:
- Before reading, look at the pictures and predict what you think will happen in the story.
- During reading ask yourself; what do you think will happen next?
- Although the author hasn't told me this, I think______.
Inferring:
- Why did the character do that?
- What did the author mean by ________?
- (Character name) must be feeling ________.
- Are there any clues to help us know that?
Visualize:
- What are the pictures or images in my mind?
- What do the characters, setting and events of the story look like in my mind?
- Can I picture this new information?

Asking Questions:
