Principal's Message
Where has the first half of the school year gone? January has been a very busy month returning from Christmas break and getting back into the swing of things for both students and staff. January has also been a great month for student learning. Our students continue to impress me with their strong work ethic, positive attitudes, and dedicated focus on their learning. Our students are learning about Bloom’s Taxonomy (higher level thinking strategies) and are doing a great job implementing that throughout their assignments. Critical thinking and high-level thinking skills are important to ensure students have successful futures. We are so proud of their accomplishments and encourage them to put forth their very best efforts all the time.
As the cold weather descends upon us, please be reminded that we go outside for recess most of the time following the district’s Inclement Weather policy AP 131. When it gets below -22 (including the wind chill) we remain inside for recess and lunch breaks but if it is warmer than that, we are outside.
Here are a few little reminders to help us provide the best care we can for your children.
- Please be sure your child has warm clothing before they leave for school.
- Students should have a toque and mittens/gloves with them
- It is also a great idea for students to have snow pants as students may head outside for daily physical education as well.
- Please make sure your child has a pair of indoor and outdoor shoes.
February is a short but action-packed month at the school. There is lots going on including Teacher's Convention, Family Day, and we can’t forget Pink Shirt Day on February 22, plus all of the curriculum and learning that also has to happen. February tends to fly by and soon we will be into March with spring just around the corner.
Well that’s it for now. Have a great February and stay warm.

First Nations Friday
The First Lesson of the Medicine Wheel
The medicine wheel has been used by generations of First Nations in Canada for health and healing and as a tool for learning and teaching.
The circle is divided into four coloured quadrants. The colours can vary, but the symbolism remains similar amongst the first peoples. The wheel moves in a clockwise direction, with the teachings always beginning at the yellow, or eastern, quadrant. These colours relate to teachings of the directions, seasons, elements, animals, plants, heavenly bodies and the stages of life.
Lesson #1: The Four Directions
The four colour quadrants on the medicine wheel can represent the four directions: north, south, east and west. The teachings of the four directions start with the east, or yellow, quadrant and run clockwise around the circle. Red symbolizes the south, black the west and white the north.
