Procrastination Station: Tips to Get You Started (For Students & Adults ;-)
1. Small actions are way more motivating than thoughts. Just sitting around and waiting to feel motivated doesn’t always work for us. However, doing often leads to more doing. Thinking about the smallest action it would take to get started makes it much easier to get the ball rolling. If you have an undesirable task to complete, ask yourself "what’s the smallest action I can take to get me started?"
Example: "My first action will be just to pull out my chrome book."
2. Setting implementation intentions, or “when-thens,” is like setting little alarms in the environment so you know when to get to work. By making a rule that’s tied to other actions, your brain will send little reminders that it’s time to act.
Examples: “When I finish my dinner, then I will put my dishes away.”
“When I set down my toothbrush, then I will put on my pajamas.”
3. Pre-commitment is a great way to prepare yourself for obstacles. Think about the things that usually cause you to procrastinate. Video games? Your phone? Feeling tired? Creating “if-then” statements for any one of those things will make you more likely to act responsibly if they arise. “If-thens” are usually created when you’re at your best, and you have the best intentions.
Example: "If my friend calls me to play video games online, I will schedule a time to play after my work is done."
Do you or the kids need a way to release some stress?

Career Exploration: Week 2
As we enter Week 2 of our school closure, I am asking students to do more in-depth study of the Career Clusters. I will assign one Career Cluster for each grade level to focus on. Each student from 1st-4th grades should go to VJS Jr. from Classlink. Once in VJS Jr. go to "Career Central" (see picture below) and click into the cluster that was assigned to your grade level. Once you enter the assigned cluster, view videos about different careers in that cluster. After viewing at least 5 careers from that cluster, students should rank their interest in the cluster using the star rating (see picture below). This activity will help them focus on the career they will focus on as they enter 5th grade and begin working on their Career Portfolio.
Extension Activity: Click on "Open Career Journal" (see picture below) and write one sentence in the Career Description section explaining why you like or dislike this career.
Week 2 Career Focus:

Agriculture
2nd Grade:
Health Sciences
3rd Grade:

4th Grade (4):
