Mason Gazette
February 2, 2018
Dear Mason Families,
Happy Friday! It is hard to believe that today was the second day of February!! We had another wonderful week of learning at Mason! Next week, Monday, we will start our week off with a whole school Town Hall meeting about cafeteria behavior (our PBIS focus behavior of the month) and acceptance (our character word of the month). Please take some time this week to talk with your child about both of these topics and feel free to have your child bring in a picture of what acceptance means to them for a very special gift from Mr. Bishop!
Thanks for your dedication to Mason,
Roy Bishop, Jr.
BOOST Fridays at Mason: We are starting a new program at Mason on Fridays and we would love your help! The goal of the program is to boost our students love for learning as it relates to Math by enriching, reteaching and supporting ALL students in the mastering of foundational math skills and building Math confidence along the way. Every Friday from 11-11:30 am, every student at Mason will be working on fun Math activities that will allow them to focus being a critical thinker, effective collaborator and a strong scholar overall in Mathematics that they will need in the real world. Our BOOST time is in addition to the core classroom instruction that takes place daily. If you would like to volunteer to help out on Fridays during this time, please click the link below and sign up. Thanks for your help!

It's Cold and Flu Season
It’s that time of year……..
We are in the month of January which means the time of year when colds, flu and other viruses are at their peak. Headache, sore throat, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, and aches are just some of the symptoms. There is a flu epidemic across the country and we are doing everything at school to keep areas clean and sanitized.
A child who has any of these symptoms and has a FEVER should not come to school. Your child can’t learn well when he/she is ill and other students and the staff are at risk for also becoming ill.
So please keep your child home until your child is feeling better and is fever free for 24 hours without fever medicine. We have students who are leaving school sick and returning to school without having time to recover which is resulting with them going home again that day. Call the school office so we know the reason your child is absent. If your child is not improving, please call your child’s medical provider. We want all students safe and healthy.
School Attendance:313-432-4401
We also want to thank the wonderful families who have been sending in hand sanitizer, Kleenex, and disinfectant wipes for classrooms and common areas. It has been a huge help to the school, in being able to be proactive in the cleaning because we are going through cleaning products quickly! Please feel free to continue sending them in we greatly appreciate the help!
THANK YOU
The American Red Cross Blood Services staff extends their heartfelt appreciation for your efforts on behalf of the many patients whose lives depend on the availability of blood products in our community. The results of your recent blood drive on January 25, 2018 are as follows:
Blood drive goal: 30
37 people registered
9 people were willing to donate but could not for minor medical reasons
28 people successfully donated one unit of whole blood
28 Units of lifesaving blood were collected, giving as many as 84 hospital patients a chance to once again enjoy good health. Thank you very much for all your effort and support. Great job as always!
