MOMS Club of Boonton Area
helping moms stay sane
March 2016 Newsletter
Letter from the President
Last week during the 75 degree weather, I was talking to some moms & even though it wasn't as harsh as a winter as previous years, it seems we all hibernated just like it was. Can't wait to get out & start doing some fun things outside!
Please feel free to host whatever you would like to host for the Club - the option is open to everyone to coordinate an event, not just the eboard members.
Special thanks to our NEW PLAYGROUP COORDINATORS! This part of the Club has needed "help" for so long & I think we are finally at a point where these are running smoothly for the 1-2 year olds (thanks to Jenna Zorn, Leslie Pio Costa, Wendy Sarama) & the 2-3 year olds (thanks to Nicole Sudol, Tonianne Sportelli, Dana Cornwell). Communication on these events will come to you via email from these lovely ladies I just mentioned but PLEASE make sure to RSVP so these coordinators are in the know. Lisa Ponte is going to help me with the 3-4 year olds but we still need a NON Walker Coordinator! Any takers?
Info on Events & Hosting!
We have various events throughout the year that are hosted by the eboard of the Club:
- Valentine's Dance
- MOMS Year End Dinner in June
- Summer Picnic in September
- Breakfast with Olaf in December
In addition, we have a monthly MOMS Night OUT! These are organized by a coordinator in this position (see below). If you have any ideas, please them along to myself or Vivian Bastos-Jenkins! In some months, the MNO is a "set" activity:
- May: Mothers Day Brunch - this year hosted by Kelly DelGaizo
- June: Year End Dinner - hosted by the eboard
Bi Monthly Events include (see below for coordinators):
- Book Club - Candice Hoff
- DIY Club - Stephani Wright & Wendy Sarama
- Family Fun Night - Lisa Calamari
Then there are our everyday events that are hosted by our members! Anyone can "host"and this does not mean absorbing costs or opening your home. It can be as simple as lunch at Delizia or a walk on the Boulevard. Feel free to host whatever you would like!
Annual Easter Egg Hunt ~ March 23rd
Please bring 12 plastic eggs for each of your children that will be participating in the hunt so that each child goes home with 12 eggs! Please fill these eggs with anything you would like, but please no peanuts/tree nut items!
NEW: Recipe Corner by Marianne Green
We thought it would be fun to share some of the recipes we have been collecting from our events with you each month through the newsletter. This month we bring you a yummy crock pot recipe as well as a healthy dessert from the MNO with Chrissy Davenport!
Mexican Chili with Cornbread Topping
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
1 pepper, any color, chopped
1 can frozen corn
1 package taco seasoning
1 can of condensed tomato soup
1 cup shredded cheddar or Pepperjack cheese
1 box of jiffy corn muffin mix and ingredients needed on box
Combine first 6 ingredients in slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours
Top with shredded cheese and assembled muffin batter
Add lid and cook on high setting for 60 minutes
Gluten Free Flourless Black Bean Brownie Muffins
Protein and fiber packed! Tastes like a cakey-delicious brownie without the guilt. No one can tell they’re made with beans!
1 (15 oz) can of black beans, rinsed and drained
3 large eggs
½ cup pure maple syrup (Grade B or C is best)
2 Tablespoons coconut oil, melted and cooled
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 Tablespoon brewed coffee (optional to enhance flavor)
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (I used Ghirardelli 100% Unsweetened Cocoa)
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1/3 cup chocolate chips, plus 3 Tablespoons for sprinkling on top
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Line a 12 cup muffin tin with baking liners and spray the inside of each liner with non stick cooking spray.
Place black beans and 1 egg into a food processor and process until beans are blended well.
Add another two eggs, maple syrup, coconut oil, vanilla and coffee, process again until smooth
Add cocoa powder and baking powder and process until smooth. Fold in 1/3 cup chocolate chips.
Divide batter evenly among muffin cups and sprinkle remaining chocolate chips evenly on top of each muffin.
Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle of a muffin comes out clean.
Place muffins on wire rack to cool for 10 minutes.
Store muffins for a day at room temperature then transfer to refrigerator to store in an airtight container.
Wishing a very Happy Birthday to all of our Moms & Kiddos with March Birthdays!! We hope it is wonderful!!

Annual MOMS Club Luncheon
We’re very excited to invite you to the 20th annual MOMS Club Conference 4 Luncheon on Saturday, April 9, 2016! The theme this year is….MAMAS IN PAJAMAS!
We are so lucky that this takes place every year right in our backyard at the Hanover Marriott (1401 Rt. 10 East, Whippany, NJ 07981). MOMS Clubs travel from all over the East coast for this & this year....we get to wear our PAJAMAS!
Please repspond directly to ME if you are committing to attend the luncheon. We need to register by March 15th & need payment by that date as well. The ticket cost is $51, but the club covers half of this cost so your responsibility is $25.50. You can pay the Club via PayPal: firstname.lastname@example.org & just note this is for the luncheon.
Every year we have so much fun & bring so much back both personally & as a group. The last few years we filled a full table of 10 - hoping for more this year! We'll hear from the leaders of the MOMS Club as well as the founder. She is in attendance with her daughter every year! There are baskets for raffle that each club donates & the coveted award for best display. Last year we took FIRST PLACE with our amazing Display by Wendy Sarama.
Tentative schedule for the day (you can leave at ANY TIME!)
9:30am - Open registration of attendees, baskets, and displays
10:00am - Welcome and Brunch!
11:00 am - Visit the displays and baskets

Playgroups! We need your help....
Within MOMS Club we have playgroups organized specifically for your child’s age group. These groups meet at member’s homes or in parks, coffee houses, play spaces, libraries, etc & can even rotate hosts within the group. The groups are divided by the child's age & are coordinated by a member within the group.
Now that the MOMS Club is so large, it's essential that these playgroups exist so that we can more comfortably get together in people's homes & at certain locations. We are looking for 2 volunteers to help in the age groups below! Please contact me if you would like to help out!
