Wrangler Weekly
Week of September 19, 2022
Message from Ms. Bratton, principal
Today marks the end of the first month of school, and our first progress report was made available in Skyward last Friday for all students. Grades and progress reports help us all to identify areas of strength and where we need to encourage students to give more attention. If you have any questions regarding a grade, please contact is your child's teacher.
This Monday, September 19, 2022, is our Open House from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m with a PTA meeting kicking off the event at 5:30 in the main gym. We encourage all parents to attend the PTA meeting to learn what great opportunities our PTA is creating for students. Then, visit with all your child's teachers. Make sure you have a copy of your child's schedule with the teacher's name and room numbers. We will have two points of entry that evening, the front of the school near the flag poles and the gym "game entrance."
We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday evening.
Go Wranglers!
Ms. Bratton
Child Nutrition and Free/Reduced Meals
Children need healthy meals to learn and grow. Comal ISD is dedicated to offering healthy meals every school day. Secondary school breakfast is $1.95 (or $0.30 for reduced) and lunch is $3.40 (or $0.40 for reduced). Click here to create or add money to your student's online Meal App Now account.
The USDA Child Nutrition Program has updated their income eligibility guidelines to determine if your student qualifies for free/reduced meals, but the program is not only income based. If your student lives in a household that received SNAP, TANF or WIC benefits, is a foster child, homeless, runaway or migrant, he/she may be eligible.
To start your free or reduced meal application today, click here to create your account and apply.

Open House Monday September 19th
On Monday September 19th, Spring Branch Middle School will be holding our annual Open House.
Please join us at 5:30pm in the main gym for our PTA General Meeting.
Parents, we will then follow a seven period schedule from 6 PM to 7:30 PM where you will be able to meet teachers and better understand class expectations, procedures, and goals.
A few details:
- All athletics and PE classes will meet in the main gym.
- Ms. McCranie will greet all parents for both tech apps & social studies in room 305.
Attendance Matters
September is National Attendance Awareness Month! This is the perfect time to talk to your student(s) about the importance of daily attendance. Research shows that missing 10 percent of school instruction, or about 18 days, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. Attendance in secondary grades (6th-12th) is taken EVERY period. Students arriving later than 10 minutes to any class will be marked absent in that class.
We believe a good education provides your student with a foundation for future success! Absences can seriously disrupt a student’s mastery of the instructional material provided daily and cause them to fall behind or feel disconnected from what is happening in the classroom. We realize there are reasons that students may miss school occasionally due to illness or other circumstances, but please try to limit absences as much as possible.
• Communication is the key! Talk to your teachers/school staff when facing obstacles in getting to or attending school.
• Our school is a community! We want parents to feel engaged in what is happening at your school. If you have questions please contact your teachers and/or staff members. We are here to help!
• Set a positive example! Stress to your student how important their education is to their overall success. They have to be present to learn. Your impact is HUGE!
• School is fun! Be on time and ready to participate and learn. The more your student is here, the more engaged they are in what is going on in the classroom.
Students must bring a note within two days when returning after an absence. Please refer to the parent/student handbook for more detailed explanation regarding attendance.
Academic Passes to SBMS Athletic Events
- Academic wristband passes are available on Game Days only and available for pick up before school or during lunch.
- 1 per student per week. If they lose it, they don't get another.
- Students must have their real ID, not a temporary, to get an academic pass.
- We use the Monday failure report for the week so they must be passing all classes on Monday.
- They must wear their ID and wristband passes during the game
- If they don't get an academic pass, they can still attend the game, but the student must be picked up from school AND a parent must attend the game with the student.
